Hahaha, having a family member that always puts on shit like the White Trash Comedy Tour when I'm home means I'd been subjected to Dunham before, but I had no idea that was actually him in this ep.

true

Meatcat (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:02 (sixteen years ago)

i was thinking that the only reason the cerie character is on the show is b/c nbc didn't believe liz or jenna would qualify as "actual conventionally attractive women that men would O_O over" to the stone mountain, georgia demographic, and you can't have a show without that.

the tamiflu show (get bent), Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:17 (sixteen years ago)

i mean jane krakowski is definitely attractive but in a comedic "miss piggy" way.

the tamiflu show (get bent), Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:19 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i think certainly part of her existence is kinda to poke fun at the convention of having a hot girl for dudes to swoon over. i def think she has a role though, and is a good character

k3vin k., Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:20 (sixteen years ago)

also, i'm curious what the overlap is between 30 rock writers and simpsons writers. both shows have that whiff of "harvard comedy writing" pratitude.

I suspect that's the case. If I remember correctly, Jenna was going to be played by Rachel Dratch until the network replaced her at the last minute.

Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:28 (sixteen years ago)

i'm sure there's an snl/conan/30 rock harvard overlap.

x-post

scott seward, Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:29 (sixteen years ago)

yeah hard to believe now that the whole show was gonna be about rachel dratch. i felt bad about her first season every episode cameo.

scott seward, Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:30 (sixteen years ago)

i'm not a big dratch fan though. i don't miss her.

scott seward, Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:31 (sixteen years ago)

Blew my mind this week finding out that John Lutz, who plays John Lutz, also writes for Saturday Night Live under the name... John Lutz.

James Mitchell, Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:32 (sixteen years ago)

i know her and tina are best friends. couldn't have been fun. hey i wrote a sitcom for you! hey they don't want you in it!

scott seward, Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:32 (sixteen years ago)

yah srsly thank u meddling network executives

ice cr?m, Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:33 (sixteen years ago)

i dunno if it would have turned out to be awful, but i can't imagine anyone coming close to krakow's jenna

k3vin k., Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:36 (sixteen years ago)

i'm sure there's an snl/conan/30 rock harvard overlap.

tracy's princeton reference made it obv that there's at least some ivy embeddedness. (and toofer fictionalizes the ivy embeddedness in tv comedy writing in general.)

the tamiflu show (get bent), Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:38 (sixteen years ago)

the explanation the give for RD getting canned is that they wanted someone with higher-caliber acting chops, which I will buy, along with the Krakowski's legs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dratch's anything explanation

Meatcat (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:38 (sixteen years ago)

and rachel dratch went to dartmouth. (xp)

the tamiflu show (get bent), Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:39 (sixteen years ago)

what a disaster avoided by nbc

k3vin k., Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:43 (sixteen years ago)

the pre air pilot has dratch in the jenna role - its kinda shocking

ice cr?m, Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:44 (sixteen years ago)

oh shit where can i find that?

k3vin k., Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:46 (sixteen years ago)

i think it would have been cancelled after five episodes with dratch.

scott seward, Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:47 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, that pilot is a terrifying vision

caek, Saturday, 31 October 2009 19:49 (sixteen years ago)

k3vin k., Saturday, 31 October 2009 20:02 (sixteen years ago)

pretty much all the dialogue and most of the shots without jenna ended up in the real broadcast pilot

caek, Saturday, 31 October 2009 20:04 (sixteen years ago)

re: the rule of 3 bit, the most hilarious part was how obscure the first two celebrities were, which put tracy jordan's star into context a little

k3vin k., Saturday, 31 October 2009 20:08 (sixteen years ago)

That guy didn't get to count as a celebrity because of his chatshow and instead because he was once in a queen latifah movie? And the puppet was the third.

happy halloweiner aunty tina (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 31 October 2009 20:11 (sixteen years ago)

haha "jenna attracts gay guys"...just got this

k3vin k., Saturday, 31 October 2009 20:18 (sixteen years ago)

are we cowabunga on this?

k3vin k., Saturday, 31 October 2009 20:25 (sixteen years ago)

haha "jenna attracts gay guys"...just got this

???

Leee, Saturday, 31 October 2009 21:03 (sixteen years ago)

the context was frank explaining to lutz & twofer why they should try to go to jenna's halloween party: "Jenna attracts gay guys. Gay guys throw awesome Halloween parties. Hot girls go to awesome Halloween parties"

it's just another riff on the now long-running gag where in the show, jenna is found to be really unattractive by guys

k3vin k., Saturday, 31 October 2009 21:33 (sixteen years ago)

"gay" is the key word there, cf "straight"

k3vin k., Saturday, 31 October 2009 21:34 (sixteen years ago)

hasn't there been a joke about jenna maybe being a guy when she was born or something?

caek, Saturday, 31 October 2009 21:35 (sixteen years ago)

Jenna as the show's Ms. Piggy is startling accurate, but I don't know if Jenna's ever been able to do the bit where Ms Piggy would drop in her "streetwise business-only" voice: "yeah, Morty, whaddaya got?"

i'm never sure about his star quality since his movies are said to have made like $5 billion

sonderangerbot, Sunday, 1 November 2009 02:42 (sixteen years ago)

hahaha yeah that's right

k3vin k., Sunday, 1 November 2009 02:44 (sixteen years ago)

nah, his movies had been flopping for a while before 30 Rock started, it's why he had to take the job on TGS

his vast wealth comes from Dongslayer: The Legend Of Goregasm

RAPTOBER (sic), Sunday, 1 November 2009 02:48 (sixteen years ago)

and remember, no one on the street seemed to know who he was when he went out to try to talk to 'normal' people.
