Don't honestly think I'd miss any of the venues if their ethos could continue elsewhere, if that makes sense. Had some good nights in all of them, but I used to have good nights in the Woody and the RAFA and the Bedsit and various other places as well.
Keep Stereo going til I've gone to see Sunn O))) though, eh?
― ailsa, Saturday, 31 October 2009 01:53 (sixteen years ago)
anybody up for a pre-sunn o))) drink on sunday?
― Ward Fowler, Thursday, 3 December 2009 12:41 (sixteen years ago)
I'm going to probably have to dash home between work & the gig but will be there for the show if not earlier drinks.
― krakow, Thursday, 3 December 2009 13:09 (sixteen years ago)
Aye! Upstairs in Stereo? What sort of time were you thinking?
― What do you want? This ain't an egg shop (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 3 December 2009 17:56 (sixteen years ago)
What time is the gig? An early one anyway?
― krakow, Thursday, 3 December 2009 18:18 (sixteen years ago)
Shit, I don't actually know if I've got tickets or not (mate was supposed to be arranging, has been remarkably reticent about it).
― ailsa, Thursday, 3 December 2009 18:59 (sixteen years ago)
Doors 7.30, according to my ticket. Anyone know if there's any kind of support?
― What do you want? This ain't an egg shop (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:33 (sixteen years ago)
Bong are supporting. They are definitely worth seeing.

Nice one: thank you. It'll be good to meet you, too!
― What do you want? This ain't an egg shop (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 3 December 2009 20:30 (sixteen years ago)
great! see you in the bar, grimly, not long after doors open?(hope you can make it too, ailsa - just today i noticed that ticket place under the arches still had posters up for the gig, so maybe it is not sold out - tbh i thought it wld be, by now)
ty for the tip off abt bong, krakow, tho im such an old fart these days i find that one monolothic drone outfit per evening is usually enough (also, will probably be able to FEEL em through the floorboards w/ a bit of luck) - am also contemplating earplugs, which i know is kinda lame but i think maryanne amacher was my tipping point into tinnitus :-(
― Ward Fowler, Thursday, 3 December 2009 21:40 (sixteen years ago)
Bong are more psychedelic, at least when I saw them at Halloween. It's transportive.
― krakow, Thursday, 3 December 2009 21:48 (sixteen years ago)
sold!
― Ward Fowler, Thursday, 3 December 2009 21:50 (sixteen years ago)
is this gig rly £15? :(
― SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (cozwn), Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:20 (sixteen years ago)
Aye. Isn't sold out. Shall consult my bank balance and my mate, and possibly see some of you in Stereo on Sunday.
― ailsa, Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:41 (sixteen years ago)
Are you all hearing these firework-sounding explosions? Loud.
― stet, Thursday, 3 December 2009 23:05 (sixteen years ago)
Nope? No explosions on the soo'side. Probably no bad thing.
― What do you want? This ain't an egg shop (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 3 December 2009 23:17 (sixteen years ago)
Ppl are tweeting about it coming from the southside. Hmm
― stet, Thursday, 3 December 2009 23:20 (sixteen years ago)
Should be at Sunn O))) on Sunday. Not got my tickets confirmed but seeing as I previewed it for the List I should be sorted! O'Malley said he and Greg Anderson will be playing three full stacks each! It's gonna be ridiculous.
― Stew, Thursday, 3 December 2009 23:25 (sixteen years ago)
Whenever I think of Glasgow I think of this great song because as an proud American I have no other point of reference
― you don't mess with the Lohan (CaptainLorax), Friday, 4 December 2009 00:21 (sixteen years ago)
I've seen sunnO))) before but wd like to again; £15 is steep tho
― SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (cozwn), Friday, 4 December 2009 00:28 (sixteen years ago)
Cant afford it, too close to xmas.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 5 December 2009 22:23 (sixteen years ago)
OK: I'll be along tonight for 7.30 or as near as dammit. Looking forward to catching up with whoever else is there.
― What do you want? This ain't an egg shop (grimly fiendish), Sunday, 6 December 2009 13:27 (sixteen years ago)
Sorry dude, tough night of beer has wiped me out, of cash and of will to live. Enjoy.
― ailsa, Sunday, 6 December 2009 15:08 (sixteen years ago)
Boo. Catch you soon, though, I hope.
― What do you want? This ain't an egg shop (grimly fiendish), Sunday, 6 December 2009 15:31 (sixteen years ago)
Definitely. We should arrange some sort of Christmas-related excuse for beer, I reckon.
― ailsa, Sunday, 6 December 2009 15:32 (sixteen years ago)
I suggest west beer as a venue
― SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (webinar), Sunday, 6 December 2009 16:23 (sixteen years ago)
I'd be up for West-style antics, aye. The problem is never where so much as when.
― What do you want? This ain't an egg shop (grimly fiendish), Sunday, 6 December 2009 16:30 (sixteen years ago)
(Unless "where" is Mono, natch, and Ailsa throws a strop :)
― What do you want? This ain't an egg shop (grimly fiendish), Sunday, 6 December 2009 16:31 (sixteen years ago)
or tennents (because I'm lazy)
― SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (webinar), Sunday, 6 December 2009 16:36 (sixteen years ago)
Well, it does have decent beers.
― What do you want? This ain't an egg shop (grimly fiendish), Sunday, 6 December 2009 16:37 (sixteen years ago)
And a door-to-door bus service to my flat.
west beer ftw
― stet, Sunday, 6 December 2009 16:38 (sixteen years ago)
West Beer is good, aye. As is Tennents. West End is easier for me to get home from, right enough (for easier, read cheaper, obv).
Celtic are at home on Boxing Day, which will place me in the general vicinity of West Beer, if that's a plan?
― ailsa, Sunday, 6 December 2009 16:41 (sixteen years ago)
I still don't have my rota for the Christmas and New Year weeks: I know I'm working Christmas Day but no idea about Boxing Day. If I'm not working, though, I think there'll probably be in-law action in which I should be involved. I doubt I'll be able to persuade them to go to West.
― What do you want? This ain't an egg shop (grimly fiendish), Sunday, 6 December 2009 17:05 (sixteen years ago)
Right, I am occupied on the 10th, 17th, 18th, 25th, and cannot go out on the 30th or any night thereafter. Otherwise, is all good. Not working between Christmas and New Year.
― ailsa, Sunday, 6 December 2009 17:07 (sixteen years ago)
I'm going to allow a zen-like combination of "my rota" and "what dates other dudes can make" to do my deciding for me :)
― What do you want? This ain't an egg shop (grimly fiendish), Sunday, 6 December 2009 17:10 (sixteen years ago)
We really haven't got any better at this, have we? What we need is a special guest appearance by an out-of-towner to galvanise the troops.
― ailsa, Sunday, 6 December 2009 17:12 (sixteen years ago)
HI DERE (MIBBES)
― Never in, Kuyt (aldo), Sunday, 6 December 2009 17:32 (sixteen years ago)

― ailsa, Sunday, 6 December 2009 17:35 (sixteen years ago)
west beer
― conrad, Sunday, 6 December 2009 18:34 (sixteen years ago)
OK, SunnO))) types: I'm writing this from a small table just by the stairs down to the venue, which are currently blocked by a largely unsmiling contingent of beardedly grim men queuing to ensure they can be at the front. Given I've forgotten earplugs, I'm happy enough to be at the back :)
Will give it another few minutes and see if anyone turns up, then fuck off downstairs, where the chances of any of us finding each other are less than 0. Or even 0))).
― What do you want? This ain't an egg shop (grimly fiendish), Sunday, 6 December 2009 19:59 (sixteen years ago)
I was there, but I didn't knowingly meet any ILXors. I was at the front, on official photo business. Awesome show. <doom claw>
― krakow, Monday, 7 December 2009 09:16 (sixteen years ago)
Sorry I missed you Grimly - I had to wait ages for a fucking bus in Dennistoun, so I didn't get to Stereo until Bong were starting their set (which I enjoyed a great deal - reminded me of old school Skullflower in places.)
Stuck at the back of the venue for most of Sunn O))), which wasn't great - crowded, hot, lots of jostling and zero visibility - it was only abt half way in that i could make out a robed figure or two (krakow, do you happen to know what line up it was this time round?) But at that kind of volume, it was still possible to lose yourself in the drone - there were moments when my whole body seem to ripple with a kind of electrified pleasure, and i actually had the weird sensation of my scalp lifting from my skull at one point. Loved the heavy power electronics segment in particular, and kinda wish there'd been a bit more of that and maybe just a little less gothique vocalising.
― Ward Fowler, Monday, 7 December 2009 09:39 (sixteen years ago)
this thread always a laff
― conrad, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 02:23 (sixteen years ago)
The line up was, as far I know and could make out through the smoke, your usual Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson naturally, Attila (from Mayhem & others) stage front on vocals and Steve Moore on keyboards and a wee bit of trombone and other gubbins.
― krakow, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 11:19 (sixteen years ago)
looking forward to seeing yr pics
― Ward Fowler, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 12:02 (sixteen years ago)
They're great if you like grainy shots of darkly billowing smoke.

Fucking hell, Krakow, those are awesome. Substantially better than the ones the bloke next to me was trying to take all night :)
I ended up standing on a box at the left for both sets, about halfway back, which proved an excellent vantage point for watching trombones etc emerge from the gloom -- although most of the time I couldn't actually tell how many people were on stage. I did get the awesome effect of being able to lean against the walls to "feel" the sound, too, though.

Yes, absolutely. The whole point of this stuff, for me, is to be able to lose yourself in it: partly because of the sheer number of people, but also partly because of the vocals, that wasn't always possible. Still, when it worked, it worked awesomely.
Bong, though, were an unexpected treat. Loved every second of that from start to finish.
― What do you want? This ain't an egg shop (grimly fiendish), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:07 (sixteen years ago)
Thanks.
I personally loved Attila's vocals. He was doing some great things with his voice. Gregorian chants, unearthly growls, pterodactyl screeches...
