mark cl, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:17 (sixteen years ago)

buffalo trace is enjoyable imo

call all destroyer, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:18 (sixteen years ago)

i've heard great things about buffalo trace, especially blanton's which is from the BT distillery

mark cl, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:18 (sixteen years ago)

haha i don't have proper whiskey glass sizes at all. drinking glasses - 2 left, i broke 1, 32 oz mason jars, coffee mugs (drinking wine out of a handmade one that says "good luck you'll need it" rn). i hope that's ok with y'all.

Peepoop Patel (harbl), Friday, 30 October 2009 03:18 (sixteen years ago)

peeps love their bourbon, we need some scotch/irish drinkers itt imo

velko, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:19 (sixteen years ago)

britishers are asleep right now. just wait.

ian, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:20 (sixteen years ago)

i have laphroaig on hand; also i stan dewars on a regular basis

call all destroyer, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:20 (sixteen years ago)

btw CAD i went to blanchard's the other night. that place is awesome - tons of beer in the cooler, even more on the shelves. whiskey selection was much better than most places i've been so far in boston. staff were super helpful - i think like three different people asked if i need help, and the guy i talked to about bourbon chatted w/ me for a while

mark cl, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:21 (sixteen years ago)

not crazy abt irish most of the time tho i do have an untouched bottle of midleton i'm saving for the right moment

call all destroyer, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:21 (sixteen years ago)

oh rad mark! bought bulleit and wine there tonight--it's a good store.

call all destroyer, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:22 (sixteen years ago)

currently drinking: The Macallan Select Oak – "Testament to The Macallan’s knowledge and mastery of wood, Select Oak uses 3 cask types – American Oak seasoned with either sherry or bourbon and first-fill European oak casks seasoned with sherry. Investing more per cask than any other Single Malt, each Macallan cask has been handcrafted and selected under the supervision of The Macallan’s Master of Wood, George Espie. This very special whisky has a high proportion of first fill Sherry Oak casks."

It's awesome.

Pedro Paramore (jim), Friday, 30 October 2009 03:23 (sixteen years ago)

harbl go to a thrift store, you'll prob find something great and for cheap. went to a salvation army specifically for sipping glasses and found a set of 4 perfect glasses for like $2

mark cl, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:23 (sixteen years ago)

haha thrift store is where i got my formerly 3 drinking glasses, so of course that'd be the first place i'd look

Peepoop Patel (harbl), Friday, 30 October 2009 03:23 (sixteen years ago)

yes thrift stores are great for little sets of tumblers

call all destroyer, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:24 (sixteen years ago)

hahah jim that sounds great, how much is it per bottle? xxp

mark cl, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:24 (sixteen years ago)

i have these weird little blue glasses i got in a thrift store that i never really use, but they are cool

call all destroyer, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:24 (sixteen years ago)

i've been drinking my bourbon lately out of a teacup :\

ian, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:25 (sixteen years ago)

seconding laphroaig; also, scapa.

ljubljana, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:25 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i don't even care about having different-sized glasses. i like this set of coffee mugs i got from college pottery sale. i could drink whiskey out of them.

Peepoop Patel (harbl), Friday, 30 October 2009 03:26 (sixteen years ago)

yea all it needs to be is relatively small. before i got the ones i have, i used these tiny ceramic mugs that my sister made, they were pretty great

mark cl, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:27 (sixteen years ago)

hahah jim that sounds great, how much is it per bottle? xxp

― mark cl

on the site i c&p'd that info from it says $53, can't remember what it cost me when i got it at the duty free at an airport in Spain, just remember i decided to buy myself a bottle of whiskey that cost almost as much as the bottle of perfume i was buying for my girl.

Pedro Paramore (jim), Friday, 30 October 2009 03:30 (sixteen years ago)

$53 doesn't sound that bad for what you described imo

mark cl, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:41 (sixteen years ago)

wow, this bulleit. sweet and smooth--really really tasty.

call all destroyer, Friday, 30 October 2009 04:02 (sixteen years ago)

yea it's nice and really good for the price imo - usually around $30/bottle

mark cl, Friday, 30 October 2009 04:03 (sixteen years ago)

I always thought it was pronounced bull-LEET but I don't think I've ever said it out loud. glad this thread set me straight

dmr, Friday, 30 October 2009 04:18 (sixteen years ago)

buffalo trace is pretty good, ian

I may need to get a bottle of something for my friend's Breeders' Cup get-together next weekend

dmr, Friday, 30 October 2009 04:20 (sixteen years ago)

i've always heard bullet like what you put in a gun

tehresa, Friday, 30 October 2009 04:24 (sixteen years ago)

I'm sure that's right. I was only pronouncing it to myself in my head :)

dmr, Friday, 30 October 2009 04:25 (sixteen years ago)

in my head before i heard anyone say it i thought bull-light bc that's how it'd be pronounced in german.

tehresa, Friday, 30 October 2009 04:26 (sixteen years ago)

whiskey doesn't really go well with chapped lips :\ stinnnnng

ian, Friday, 30 October 2009 04:31 (sixteen years ago)

x-post

I figured it was bull-eet, too. And it's $20 at Trader Joe's in So Cal. I'm having the last of my bottle now, thanks to this thread.

nickn, Friday, 30 October 2009 04:39 (sixteen years ago)

in BC, Canada, I can get Buffalo Trace, Makers, Knob Creek, and Woodford Reserve, as far as high end goes. Jim Beam and Jack Daniels are here too of course. Bulleit appeared this summer and i was so excited but i did not like it - tasted too light, too sweet, too rye.

The one that I like for $30 here is Rebel Yell, which I can only get in Surrey. Woodford Reserve is my favourite in the $40-$50 range, which is where everything else(Makers, Knob Creek, Buffalo) is.

Everytime I come back from the States I pick up something different on the way home - Elmer T Lee was my favorite from the summer.

derrrick, Friday, 30 October 2009 08:38 (sixteen years ago)

think I'm finally going to pick up a bottle of whisk(e)y or bourbon after a couple years of not having any. looking for a good sipping kind to have on the rocks. any recs or should I just try and see which one of the recommended ones (bulleit, george dickel, overholt, etc) here I can find in HK?

also this post is inscrutable!

every asiann person i've known that loves johnny walker, i love him/her

囧 (dyao), Friday, 30 October 2009 08:45 (sixteen years ago)

also been entertaining the idea of getting a bottle of rye so I can pretend Im a 1930s detective

囧 (dyao), Friday, 30 October 2009 08:46 (sixteen years ago)

i don't think i've ever had rye. Have never enjoyed any bourbon I've tried and Jack Daniels is imo disgusting.

Pedro Paramore (jim), Friday, 30 October 2009 10:39 (sixteen years ago)

this wouldnt be too bad imo - http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/environment/090909/shackletons-whisky?page=0,0

just sayin, Friday, 30 October 2009 12:22 (sixteen years ago)

bulleit love.

lxy, Friday, 30 October 2009 17:47 (sixteen years ago)

superenvious of californians being able to buy for 20 at trader joe's.

lxy, Friday, 30 October 2009 17:48 (sixteen years ago)

yeah what the hell i'm gonna stock up or something when i go down next year!

tehresa, Friday, 30 October 2009 17:51 (sixteen years ago)

i loooove rye.

ian, Friday, 30 October 2009 18:05 (sixteen years ago)

rye is fucking great

just sayin, Friday, 30 October 2009 18:12 (sixteen years ago)

superenvious of californians being able to buy for 20 at trader joe's.

yea seriously a good price here in MA is like $30

mark cl, Friday, 30 October 2009 18:23 (sixteen years ago)

i'm going home to cleveland in a few weeks, i'm curious to see how prices will compare out there. i might be stocking up on a lot. will definitely at least bring back some beer

mark cl, Friday, 30 October 2009 18:24 (sixteen years ago)

Bulleit appeared this summer and i was so excited but i did not like it - tasted too light, too sweet, too rye.

I love rye but I agree with this, Bulleit is a little light for me

The one that I like for $30 here is Rebel Yell, which I can only get in Surrey. Woodford Reserve is my favourite in the $40-$50 range, which is where everything else(Makers, Knob Creek, Buffalo) is.

yeesh that is way too much for Makers imo. I drink Makers a fair amount cause a lot of bars that's the best they have but I don't really get bottles of it anymore. too sweet.

my taste runs toward dry though, I like this kind called Corner Creek as a cheap bottle for home (about $22 in New York) but I was looking at reviews on bourbon sites and most of the comments were "hate it, way too dry."

dmr, Friday, 30 October 2009 18:33 (sixteen years ago)

oh I guess that's canadian dollars. still pretty high though

dmr, Friday, 30 October 2009 18:35 (sixteen years ago)

yeah in CDN. It is high - Woodford, Buffalo Trace, and Makers are all $48. and to be honest I find Makers too thin, almost sharp. Bulleit is only $33, which is why I wish I enjoyed it more!

derrrick, Saturday, 31 October 2009 01:56 (sixteen years ago)

holy shit i tried baker's tonight at a bar - i haven't tried too many whiskeys but i might say that this is the best bourbon i've ever had

mark cl, Saturday, 31 October 2009 03:18 (sixteen years ago)

oooh maybe i will try!

i am so bad at drinking now :(
