yea it's really really mellow

out of the whiskeys i have (which isn't many) - knob, bulleit, dickel, overholt - it's the overholt that it reminds the most of. must be the rye? that could be way off and i'll probably change that the more i drink BH or do a side-by-side tasting but it kind of tastes like a much brighter, more flowery/fruitier overholt. there is this base flavoring the two of them have that seems similar

everywhere i've heard it's just "bullet"

a whiskey dork and close friend who works in the spirits industry also clarified for me that it's "bullet"

buffalo trace is enjoyable imo

i've heard great things about buffalo trace, especially blanton's which is from the BT distillery

haha i don't have proper whiskey glass sizes at all. drinking glasses - 2 left, i broke 1, 32 oz mason jars, coffee mugs (drinking wine out of a handmade one that says "good luck you'll need it" rn). i hope that's ok with y'all.

btw CAD i went to blanchard's the other night. that place is awesome - tons of beer in the cooler, even more on the shelves. whiskey selection was much better than most places i've been so far in boston. staff were super helpful - i think like three different people asked if i need help, and the guy i talked to about bourbon chatted w/ me for a while

not crazy abt irish most of the time tho i do have an untouched bottle of midleton i'm saving for the right moment

harbl go to a thrift store, you'll prob find something great and for cheap. went to a salvation army specifically for sipping glasses and found a set of 4 perfect glasses for like $2

haha thrift store is where i got my formerly 3 drinking glasses, so of course that'd be the first place i'd look

yes thrift stores are great for little sets of tumblers

yeah i don't even care about having different-sized glasses. i like this set of coffee mugs i got from college pottery sale. i could drink whiskey out of them.

yea all it needs to be is relatively small. before i got the ones i have, i used these tiny ceramic mugs that my sister made, they were pretty great

on the site i c&p'd that info from it says $53, can't remember what it cost me when i got it at the duty free at an airport in Spain, just remember i decided to buy myself a bottle of whiskey that cost almost as much as the bottle of perfume i was buying for my girl.

$53 doesn't sound that bad for what you described imo

in my head before i heard anyone say it i thought bull-light bc that's how it'd be pronounced in german.

I figured it was bull-eet, too. And it's $20 at Trader Joe's in So Cal. I'm having the last of my bottle now, thanks to this thread.

in BC, Canada, I can get Buffalo Trace, Makers, Knob Creek, and Woodford Reserve, as far as high end goes. Jim Beam and Jack Daniels are here too of course. Bulleit appeared this summer and i was so excited but i did not like it - tasted too light, too sweet, too rye.

The one that I like for $30 here is Rebel Yell, which I can only get in Surrey. Woodford Reserve is my favourite in the $40-$50 range, which is where everything else(Makers, Knob Creek, Buffalo) is.

Everytime I come back from the States I pick up something different on the way home - Elmer T Lee was my favorite from the summer.

think I'm finally going to pick up a bottle of whisk(e)y or bourbon after a couple years of not having any. looking for a good sipping kind to have on the rocks. any recs or should I just try and see which one of the recommended ones (bulleit, george dickel, overholt, etc) here I can find in HK?

i don't think i've ever had rye. Have never enjoyed any bourbon I've tried and Jack Daniels is imo disgusting.
