what is THE USED??? i have seen a lot of tshirts/bags/etc and i figured it was ol skool punk but maybe i was confusing them w/ THE DAMNED???

The Used is not a band, it's just that girl.

kenan, Thursday, 10 May 2007 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

Ladies & gentlemen, you're new hero, Chuck Asay:

Holy freaking Christ:

http://media.townhall.com/Townhall/Car/b/ca0510ad.jpg

We actually have a crying statue of liberty.

kingfish, Thursday, 10 May 2007 20:09 (nineteen years ago)

Ok this is the second cartoon I've seen demonizing fluorescent bulbs. Maybe it would be ok if they were satirizing poor light quality, or the fact that if you break one you basically have to move out and demolish the house. But... uh... saving energy and money is... bad? Then why do these people even care how much gasoline costs?

kenan, Thursday, 10 May 2007 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

The duck explains why:

B/c only sanctimonious boomer liberals and Dirty Fucking Hippies care about these things, so we mustn't be like them.

kingfish, Thursday, 10 May 2007 20:18 (nineteen years ago)

so much for patriotism; he doesn't even know what the statue of liberty looks like

crossposts

RJG, Thursday, 10 May 2007 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

you forgot about one thing: Al Gore.

kenan, Thursday, 10 May 2007 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

Also, I don't think convincing people to buy a $5 light bulb that will last until their kids are grown and save them real, tangible money on their electric bill is going to be such a hard sell. Wal-Mart is even pushing them. This "only sanctimonious liberals do energy efficient things" cannot last long.

kenan, Thursday, 10 May 2007 20:22 (nineteen years ago)

ok did chuck asay forget that the statue of liberty is holding a torch with a FLAME coming out, and not just a wierd handle-like object thing, or are those fireworks supposed to be coming out of the torch now, or waht?

gff, Thursday, 10 May 2007 20:24 (nineteen years ago)

i should write a letter

gff, Thursday, 10 May 2007 20:24 (nineteen years ago)

the "thought crime" light bulb one is a funny strip except for the title

RJG, Thursday, 10 May 2007 20:24 (nineteen years ago)

Even the big globe on the poster is mad at him.

kingfish, Thursday, 10 May 2007 20:26 (nineteen years ago)

ps kingfish kudos for finding a real live crying liberty

btw did soros and moveon have a thing to do w/ the imus affair? rightwing hate memes are so free-floating, it's like madlibs

gff, Thursday, 10 May 2007 20:26 (nineteen years ago)

once again, 'nappy-headed,' the actual racist part is edited out

deej, Thursday, 10 May 2007 21:01 (nineteen years ago)

The George Soros bit has been w/ Oreilly lately:

He was going after him in mid/late April

Gaggle on Time Magazine: So irrelevant it puts world leaders, presidential candidates, business moguls and popular icons on the cover. I'm no big fan of Time, but surely this is a stretch?

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 10 May 2007 23:30 (nineteen years ago)

i like how the gas prices one is basically like "fuck capitalism! we want our shit CHEAP and we want the government to make it that way!"

...and the anti-environmentalism stuff is mind-boggling, especially since environmentalism (whatever that even means these days) is, at heart, profoundly conservative.

river wolf, Friday, 11 May 2007 00:08 (nineteen years ago)

are there really people out there that are in favor of the war because it'll keep gas prices down????

river wolf, Friday, 11 May 2007 00:09 (nineteen years ago)

Why is GAGGLE hosted by Keith Olberman?

Abbott, Friday, 11 May 2007 00:09 (nineteen years ago)

Gaggle just uses badly rendered versions of any media type. It's from newsbusters, brent bozell's group that doesn't exactly support an active free press.

With that, let's begin today's round:

http://media.townhall.com/Townhall/Car/b/PN051407.jpg

I'm curious about the inclusion of both Howard and the Opie & Anthony shows. While I understand the need for any op-ed toon to have a quick & dirty signpost to refer to, both his & the O&A shows have satellite-only for over a year. Oh and Rosie says things we don't like, so she gets to go in there w/ Imus. I'm assuming that the other depection of her(a filled garbage can sans garbage bag w/ "Rosie" on the side) was wither too subtle or not subtle enough.

http://media.townhall.com/Townhall/Car/b/kn0503cd.jpg

"complacent"?

http://media.townhall.com/Townhall/Car/b/kn0503dd.jpg

http://media.townhall.com/Townhall/Car/b/varv051107a.jpg

Now surely we can all agree with this strong rebuke of the cost of post-secondary education and the mountains of debt on the shoulders of american graduates.

http://media.townhall.com/Townhall/Car/b/gm070511.jpg

Which is kinda funny, being posted on the same site that runs blog posts like Why Mormons are NOT Christians - Part 2, and in the exact same frame.

Hold up, wasn't this the same guy who did a toon about female service members not fearing any leering harassment at all due to constantly packing loaded M4s while they triapsed about the Green Zone with shorts, bare midriffs, and a noticeable lack of flak jackets?

Leno vs Conan WAHT TEH FUCK

I don't know which makes less sense: using Jay Leno as a conservative mouthpiece, ignoring the flack Jackson took in the immediate 'hymietown' aftermath, or the fact that THERE IS NO REASON IN HEAVEN OR ON EARTH FOR JAY LENO AND CONAN O'BRIEN TO BE TOGETHER IN THIS CARTOON

also, no joeks.

elmo argonaut, Friday, 11 May 2007 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

talk show host puppetry in right wing comics???

deej, Friday, 11 May 2007 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

conan kinda looks like
http://www.neweyestudio.com/ebg633.jpg

and what, Friday, 11 May 2007 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

IIRC, Jackson paid a price for the hymietown...and still is.

but yeah, the CF lightbulb stip is actually funny. Anyway, we bought ours at Home Depot. Make sure you get the ones with the Energy Saver logo on them, because the others buzz.

dan selzer, Friday, 11 May 2007 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

anyone see the Bill OReilly vs. Wes Clarke fight bout Soros. Great stuff.

dan selzer, Friday, 11 May 2007 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, Home Depot had that neat little promotion on Earth Day where you could show up and get a free compact bulb. Wish I would have taken advantage of that.

kingfish, Friday, 11 May 2007 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

The Energy Star logo, you mean? I haven't seen any other kind.

But yeah, I love mine. The light is just fine.

kenan, Friday, 11 May 2007 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

Wait - is that FoxNews SOROS ---> MAINSTREAM MEDIA graphic actually real?

David R., Friday, 11 May 2007 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

MORMONS SHARPTON

i'd like to see the ones he threw away before he decided this was just creepily racist enough to be acceptable.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Friday, 11 May 2007 17:25 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah. That is an actual screenshot. Ol' Bill went tearin' after Soros around April 20th or so. The graphic is from the Crooksandliars vid of the segment.

I'm disappointed they left out the Rand Corporation and the reverse vampires.

kingfish, Friday, 11 May 2007 17:27 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah Energy Star. The brand they were selling at Home Depot, they all had similar packaging but only some of them had the Energy Star logo. I think the ones without are meant for out-doors or whatever. Anyway, just be careful.

dan selzer, Friday, 11 May 2007 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

Oreilly vs Wesley Clark

kingfish, Friday, 11 May 2007 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

Because every dollar spent on counterterrorism is
working out so well now.

"Our little elementary school is more of a target than the White House," says McLaughlin, an animated man who wears a white uniform shirt equipped with the kind of stars given to military generals. "We saw it in the Soviet Union. The Chechens took one. We can’t let our guard down."

kingfish, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:10 (nineteen years ago)

I'd just like to highlight these two, from the Clay Jones link upthread a bit:

Brittany Shaw, 8th Grade, Edward E. Drew Middle School

Stephen E. Thompson, 9th Grade, Home schooled

Mike Dixn, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:10 (nineteen years ago)

A quite loverly quote from kingfish's second link:

"The U.S. Department of Homeland Security does not review spending by police departments and other agencies, a spokeswoman said. Audits by the federal Government Accountability Office have so far only examined how quickly grant money is spent, not what it has purchased."

Aimless, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:18 (nineteen years ago)

FOLLOW THE MONEY (but wear comfortable shoes)

David R., Friday, 11 May 2007 20:23 (nineteen years ago)

not what it has purchased.

Holy shit, Josh nails it

...political cartoonists need to show televisions in their cartoons because that’s the only way to show Americans interacting with information

kingfish, Friday, 11 May 2007 21:48 (nineteen years ago)

The Leno/Conan one feels like it's the middle of a much longer narrative. Some sort of editorial cartoon graphic novel maybe?

"...and no one says a word about the blatant hypocrisy of it all."
"Oops! You forgot to tell a joke!"

forksclovetofu, Sunday, 13 May 2007 18:54 (nineteen years ago)

The Rudy one isn't all that batshit insane, although it's quite poorly drawn. I'd like to see a book that shows longitudinally the way caricature of various figures developed as their time in the spotlight went on - is it a continuous improvement or is there a moment when suddenly everybody gets the memo about how to draw Public Figure X?

Doctor Casino, Monday, 14 May 2007 09:05 (nineteen years ago)

Every time I look @ one of those "day by day" strips, I want actual physical harm to come to the artist.

Pashmina, Monday, 14 May 2007 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

that ass could start a global jihad.
