Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:40 (twenty years ago)

OMG -- see? That's another breakup for this weekend, and I just heard about another one just about 5 minutes ago! Jocelyn, I'm sorry to hear that, but you sound like you're doing alright - are you alright?

The Milkmaid (of human kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:40 (twenty years ago)

(Poxy fuled)
I'm alright. Friday night. I just realized that our lives were going in different directions and that I needed time to myself to think about some stuff, and to work and study, and he wasn't allowing me any of that time. Also, I was starting to feel like a mom instead of a girlfriend. I'm keeping myself very busy and doing all the stuff I want to do for myself, like working out and reading three books at a time and making strange food concoctions.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:55 (twenty years ago)

That happens, I guess -- better that it happens now than 10 years down the road.

The Milkmaid (of human kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 16:19 (twenty years ago)

Oh no, I'm sorry, Jocelyn. :(

You should definitely come to the Green Mill with us (that's when I'm going, at least).

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 16:26 (twenty years ago)

How long were you guys together, Jocelyn (if you don't mind my asking)?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 16:55 (twenty years ago)

Jocelyn, I have been where you are -- I'm sure lots of us have, but in particular that's how my last one ended. So congratulations to you (whether it feels like or or not) and really do enjoy the hell outta your Personal Jocelyn Time, now that you have it. Drop me a line any time you like.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:00 (twenty years ago)

You're very brave, jocelyn. I'm sorry I won't be here when you might visit. I'm going to Memphis that weekend to visit me mum avec ma sister Hev.

Jenny, last weekend I felt like a sick cat. You know how a sick cat walks all stiff like with its back arched? Well I did that, walking across the living room to get water from the kitchen. Nick was like, "uh, sarah, what are you doing?" and I was like, "duh, walking like a sick cat."

Sarah Madkitten McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:01 (twenty years ago)

You mean, like, on all fours?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:03 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha. I didn't go that far. I was acting, but it required some imagination on the part of the audience as well.

Sarah Madkitten McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:05 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, what do you play? (have we gone over this before? I dont think so)

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:15 (twenty years ago)

I play drums, and in the brass band I play bass drum most of the time.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:16 (twenty years ago)

You play trumpet, right?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:16 (twenty years ago)

yeah, or I did thru college (meaning I haven't for almost a year now). I feel guilty about not still playing. I was pretty good for a while! In high school I used to practice like 3 hours a day. College destroyed my motivation in a wave of partying : (

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:18 (twenty years ago)

oh fleeting enjoyment

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:18 (twenty years ago)

anyway cool that yr playing at the green mill. Tell me more about it...?

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:20 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, you should come to the Green Mill, deej.

We had band practice last night w/o Matt or Megan, so we worked on some "nuggets" (new song ideas that haven't yet been fully fleshed out). One of them now has a disco chorus (which is hilarious, b/c Elizabeth told Colin "give it sort of a Phoenix feel," and what he played was perfect, and then he confessed, "I've never even heard Phoenix") -- and the other song to me sounds really late 90s alt-rock/emo. But AWESOME.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:23 (twenty years ago)

so we worked on some "nuggets" (new song ideas that haven't yet been fully fleshed out)

silly rabbit. You know what a "nugget" is!

The Milkmaid (of human kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:28 (twenty years ago)

Is that weed?

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:34 (twenty years ago)

It's gold!

The Milkmaid (of human kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:34 (twenty years ago)

Wow. I need to get my eyes checked.

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:35 (twenty years ago)

Or maybe recalibrate my monitor!

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:35 (twenty years ago)

Good weed is way more valuable per ounce than gold.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:40 (twenty years ago)

I thought it was weed too.

Deej, I play in Mama Digd0wn's Brass Band, which is a New Orleans style brass band with sousaphone, two drummers, trumpets & trombones, etc. We're playing the 10th and the 11th at the Green Mill, three sets per night. We usually start out playing traditionals there and move into the street stuff as the night goes on, although I think they were a little concerned about us being too loud last time. Our trumpet player is really really good.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:40 (twenty years ago)

I just said the word "nugget" over and over while I was in the bathroom until it started to sound really weird.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:42 (twenty years ago)

That sounds awesome. I should go.

My jazz band in college played with Bobby Broom, who I know plays at the Green Mill regularly. He's a nice guy! And incredible player obv.

This makes me want to practice again.

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:42 (twenty years ago)

Uhhh should go to the green mill that is, not the bathroom.

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:42 (twenty years ago)

Yeah Deej, you should definitely come.

Nugget.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:44 (twenty years ago)

I just said the word "nugget" over and over while I was in the bathroom until it started to sound really weird.

I did the same kind of thing in the car yesterday with the word "Muqtada."

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:45 (twenty years ago)

I will try to make it to the Green Mill. I might bring my dorky dad! He loves jazz.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:45 (twenty years ago)

Have you ever done that w the word "bag"? I think thats the funniest sounding common word. "Bag."

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:46 (twenty years ago)

Mug is weird too.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:46 (twenty years ago)

What the hell, I think I have Smell-O-Vision. As soon as the nugget appeared on-screen, I breathed in through my nose, and the air smelled like spicy fried chicken -- or maybe Filet-O-Fish.

I should probably now listen to Yo La Tengo's Electr-O-Pura

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:46 (twenty years ago)

I remember first doing this as a kid with the word "turtle".

I learned a new word yesterday: "matudinal".

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:47 (twenty years ago)

Enlighten us!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:48 (twenty years ago)

I think thats the funniest sounding common word. "Bag."

You would be wrong. It's obviously "pants."

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:48 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that stumps OSX's Dictionary. xpost

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:48 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, I messed it up already, it's "matutinal".

Pronunciation: "ma-chu-'tI-n&l; m&-'tüt-n&l, -'tyüt-, -'tü-t&n-&l, -'tyü-
Function: adjective
Etymology: Late Latin matutinalis, from Latin matutinus -- more at MATINEE
: of, relating to, or occurring in the morning : EARLY
- ma·tu·ti·nal·ly adverb

As in, "my fiancee is not a matutinal person."

I wish I had the Samuel Delany paragraph that I encountered it in handy, 'cause it was a doozy.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:50 (twenty years ago)

John -- I keep forgetting what that band was that sounded like classic rock and was from sweden or some shit. I need more fodder for my podcasting habits.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:05 (twenty years ago)

Dungen!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:07 (twenty years ago)

Awesome. What a great band name.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:10 (twenty years ago)

I mean, for a very certain kind of band.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:10 (twenty years ago)

I always think of Dungeon Family when I see that name.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:26 (twenty years ago)

They were a snoozefest for me at |ntonation - though it could have been the pot brownies.

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:27 (twenty years ago)

I see that Edith Frost is playing at a tiny club here in Madison on the 22nd, I should probably go to that.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:45 (twenty years ago)

BAG

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:52 (twenty years ago)

PANTS

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:57 (twenty years ago)

BLOUSE
