Well that headline likely refers to the two war-supporting, Bush apologists from the Brooking Institute who the administration sent to Iraq to get piggy-back rides from Gen. Petraeus, and who came back to provide the "even these feerce librul critiks think the Serge is werkin" meme. The fact that the media still buys into this suggests a high Midichlorian count in the Executive Branch.
― mulla atari, Sunday, 5 August 2007 04:45 (eighteen years ago)
thanks for mentioning those brookings stooges. saw both of them on various shows/in various articles talking about how great iraq is doing, i've only noticed crooks and liars talking about how full of crap they are.
wikipedia says the brookings institution is traditionally considered liberal. unh?

when the history of this age is written, I hope that attention is paid to the tribal epistemology and completely unconscious adoption of postmodern relativism by those who spent decades decrying it.

http://www.patriotart.com/images/08_06_07/EightPM450.jp The countdown to cancellation continues...
Again, it's the impotent nashing of teeth against the dirty fucking hippies I find hilarious. That this guy has it to the point of delusion is even better. Sure, why not take out your angst of the collapsing of your heroes thru your colored pencil scribblings? Go ahead and deny the results of Neilsen ratings for the last coupla years if it makes ya feel better.
http://www.daybydaycartoon.com/080707.jpg
Again, is Muir going on as if this is way things are, or the way it should be? Or, again, is it a bit of self-delusion where the guy is trying to reinforce his delusion thru his scribblings? Hell, there's plenty of great guys over there doing great things, but there's also a lot of guys put thru the wringer and not doing such nice things.

this stems from old news, olbermann put o'reilly on the "worst person in the world" list about 500 separate times for being a liar and a shill, and o'reilly's only response, ever, has been to 1. threaten some radio call-in dork with criminal charges and police action for SAYING "KEITH OLBERMANN" on o'reilly's show; 2. talk about how much better his ratings are than olbermann's.

What the fuck. As if it isn't within the government's purview to upkeep roads. Yes, let's privatize road building and upkeep. That will certainly go very smoothly.

― Maria :D, Thursday, 9 August 2007 05:42 (eighteen years ago)
what i mean is that modern american politics is tribal(blue state/red state bullshit, for example), and there are plenty of people who have had the "media is biased, and therefore untrustworthy and to be discarded" thing drilled into their heads that they can only believe certain media outlets that agree with what the Party is putting out.
the postmodern relativism bit refers to people only believing in things in certain people report them. Stephen Colbert understands this better than almost everybody else nowadays(check his interview with the Onion). It's the attack of "objective media" by people who would happily replace fact with opinion, which, as guys like Chris Hedges write, is a big step towards American Fascism.
But more later, when i've sobered up.

re: Postmodernism in Batshitistan. Where I see this is when radio/tv hosts keep pushing a discredited meme with the knowledge that their audience is unlikely to know or care that it has been discredited. Hannity is particularly bad.
Also, there's a strange focusing on one particular irrelevant detail to represent the whole--Global Warming can't be true because Al Gore has a high electricity bill. The O'Reilly campaign against YearlyKos is an example of this: pulling a few comments from a site with hundreds of thousands of contributers to tarnish the entire net roots.
I think a lot of the consumers of this stuff realize that the tactics used are underhanded, but believe that since their perspective is more morally pristine than the enemy's, it's okay to get their hands dirty. Hence them going insane over Dan Rather and not giving a flying f about Jeff Gannon (or Abu Ghraib--which was just a frat party!)
