Well it is apparently a real thing, though still obviously a tiny minority of claims. There was a lot of coverage on World At One today, a lot of which was really useful I think in making clear how many people are rejected out of hand and then win on appeal because their claims are actually legitimate. What absolutely fucking winds me up is Labourite ghouls characterising the false claims as individuals "taking the mickey" when it's absolutely clear that pretty much all of them are the result of desperate people being told what to do by unscrupulous gangsters. The Home Office is so fond of saying that they're stopping boats etc not because of the innocent souls on board but because of trafficking rings - well - when are they going to go after the actual bad guys here?
