our brave new digital future.
am basically following all the steps here - http://orangatame.com/support/?id=50150000000M7fh - but no matter how many times i do step 5 and save, it defaults back to "vodafone live". WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY just whyyyyyyy
― lex pretend, Saturday, 17 October 2009 17:36 (fourteen years ago) link
says i need to alter my browser configuration but every time i change it to "internet browser" it resets itself automatically to "vodafone live" - why the fuck does it keep doing this??????
Mine did that for ages - I think you need to changeit in both Browser Configuration and General Properties. Still, Twitterberry works fine on mine, and it's exactly the same as yours, so no idea what's happening there.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 17 October 2009 17:38 (fourteen years ago) link
but i changed it in general properties first as per the instructions! and it just keeps switching back automatically.
it also won't let me log into twitter AT ALL while browsing. AAARGH i hate this stupid machine.

Are you saving before you close?
― Matt DC, Saturday, 17 October 2009 17:42 (fourteen years ago) link
yes!!!!!!!!!! repeatedly! everywhere!
― lex pretend, Saturday, 17 October 2009 17:42 (fourteen years ago) link
Also, are you doing this in the Browser itself or on the main Blackberry Settings menu?
― Matt DC, Saturday, 17 October 2009 17:43 (fourteen years ago) link
Try whichever one you aren't doing.
So that would be Options -> Advanced Options -> Browser, and then change the default browser configuration that way.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 17 October 2009 17:44 (fourteen years ago) link
in the browser. and it worked suddenly and randomly when i did exactly the same thing as i'd been doing in vain all the other times. fuck this technology shit.
― lex pretend, Saturday, 17 October 2009 17:46 (fourteen years ago) link
struggling with the profiles now. can't see how to set a default alert for different things?
― lex pretend, Saturday, 17 October 2009 17:47 (fourteen years ago) link
Haha now NEVER CHANGE IT AND NEVER SWITCH IF OFF EVER AGAIN.

I have a second hand Blackberry in a drawer. I broke my current phone at the weekend and spent all Sunday afternoon trying to figure out all the hows/whats/whys of it before I decided to just give up and stick my SIM in an old Nokia 3310

Pretty happy with the new Blackberry Curve (I think mine is 8330). The newer browser is a huge improvement. I kind of don't want an elaborate gaming/music/app device so much as just a good way to check and send e-mails on the go and occasionally get directions or a quick food recommendation. I find the BB well-suited to this and I like the BB keyboard (probably the main reason I didn't switch to another brand). My stubby fingers and touch screens don't get along.

gah, what's the best ilx stylesheet for the blackberry (8520)? the iphone one has all the text in a thin tiny column in the middle of the screen and i don't see an option for a mobile stylesheet (though i did c&p <a href=http://www.ilxor.com/ILX/NewAnswersControllerServlet?xml=true&stylesheet=mobile.xsl&boardid=40>this</a> but i cant get to search or the individual boards or anything from that link

― Matt DC, Tuesday, 8 March 2011 11:08 (thirteen years ago) link
that's loads better, thanks matt.
what are the best settings? i find that when the list of threads comes up its in real tiny text so i zoom in but then have to select 'column view' to be able to read it properly, same with each thread too. is there a way of setting the blackberry browser to do this automatically?

you're right...it is crap. full of glitches and terrible level design...75% of the levels after 13 seems designed to be obnoxious and require a few lucky bounces to complete. and yet I keep playing it...hmmmmmm (hmmmmm)

that black square and ticking cursor UGHHHHH
my blackberry keeps making noises unbidden - it's like it's tuning in to some radio or something? i didn't tell it to do this, no relevant application seems to be running, i don't even know HOW to make it do it
it first happened the night of the boston bombing - it played a full news report for NO REASON at all and completely freaked me out. now it seems to be picking up some sort of broadcast from the french open - if i knew how to make this happen i would have done it myself, but now i am concerned with WHY and HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP.

Any obvious reason why my Blackberry (I know, I know) has suddenly stopped receiving emails? And any obvious fixes, aside from "switch off for five minutes"?

Saw a review of BlackBerry yesterday by Matt Zoller Seitz, who I like as a TV writer. Didn't read it, but I've seen the film now and will. I know he liked it--surprised.
I found the three principles so hard to take--one yells and scowls nonstop; one is a cartoon geek; the David Foster Wallace guy wears the same dopey expression the entire film--I wanted out after about half an hour. (When Saul Rubinek appears, he puts those three actors to shame just by acting human-like. Rich Sommer--Mad Men's Harry Crane!--does all right too.) The soundtrack is much better than Air's, but to little effect. (Didn't get "Waterloo Sunset" at the end for a few seconds, but then, duh, I figured it out.)
I've never owned a cell phone, but I associate the BlackBerry with Obama in 2008, so having everything falling apart at that exact moment (a bit earlier even) was somewhat confusing.

It was all right enough as a film, a watchable trifle but the leads are indeed one-note aside from Beruchel. I gotta give credit to makeup/costumes departments though in that I didn't recognize either Cary Elwes or Michael Ironside, and their names are right there in the credits.

I recognized Cary Elwes, but needed a reminder in the credits of his name. Didn't recognize Michael Ironside at all...my strongest association with him is Scanners, 40 years ago.

I completely missed out on Blackberries. They definitely had a pop-culture moment in the mid-2000s, when someone like Paris Hilton would be widely known for using hers. Some called them crackberries because they were apparently so addictive. But what features did they have that garnered that much attention? Was it just their web-browsing and texting capabilities? Throughout their heyday, I was on old Nokia bricks and flip phones. When I graduated from those, smartphones had already been a thing for several years.
― peace, man, Thursday, 18 May 2023 14:47 (one year ago) link
According to the movie, phone + web + texting was revolutionary. But, as Paris Hilton might say, I am so not the person to answer that.
