Hmmm:

The Heenes lived in Burbank several years ago, when Richard was trying to launch an acting career, according to Los Angeles media reports. Carrie Cavalier, his former landlady, told NBC News that he was late in paying rent and left town in 2007, owing her $6,000.

On Friday, the Associated Press reported that a sheriff's deputy had responded to a 911 hang-up call at the family's home in February. The deputy said that he heard a man yelling and found Mayumi Heene with a mark on her cheek and broken blood vessels in her eye, but that she attributed it to a problem with her contacts. The deputy decided he didn't have probable cause to make an arrest, and no charges were filed.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 18 October 2009 01:45 (sixteen years ago)

so-- is it like... a negligence thing or for making the police & ambulances follow the balloon around?

no hongro (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 18 October 2009 01:48 (sixteen years ago)

I assume it's making a false police report, or something along those lines.

MSNBC has a story on it.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 18 October 2009 01:50 (sixteen years ago)

A circus-like atmosphere formed outside the home, including men holding signs and occasionally yelling "balloon boy." One sign read, "Put balloon boy on TV: America's Most Wanted."

Others carried aluminum foil stovetop popcorn makers that resembled the silvery balloon launched from the family's backyard Thursday, with 6-year-old Falcon believed to be onboard.

A man pulled a red wagon with coffee for sale. The sign had "$2" scratched out with a new price of $1.

I clearly remember Richard telling me that, if we accomplish this, it would be the most controversial and widespread UFO news story since Roswell in 1947.

But he was motivated by theories I thought were far-fetched. Like Reptilians — the idea there are alien beings that walk among us and are shape shifters, able to resemble human beings and running the upper echelon of our government. Somehow a secret government has covered all this up since the U.S. was established, and the only way to get the truth out there was to use the mainstream media to raise Richard to a status of celebrity, so he could communicate with the masses.

I was reading a book on witness reports of Roswell at the time, just out of curiousity — I've never concluded whether it really took place or was an elaborate hoax.

Dude who write the article not exackly real level-headed either then.

We can all rest now

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - A sheriff says a Colorado couple's report that their 6-year-old son was in a balloon that was hurtling away from their home was a publicity stunt.

Sheriff Jim Alderden says Richard and Mayumi Heene "put on a very good show for us, and we bought it."

The sheriff says no charges have been filed yet, and the parents aren't under arrest. But he says he expects to recommend charges of conspiracy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Alderden says interviews with the parents Saturday resulted in enough information to get a warrant to search the house. He says they were looking for computers, e-mails, phone records and financial records.

The dramatic announcement included an admission by Alderden that authorities misled the media on Friday when they said they still believed it was not a hoax.

In fact, after a comment on CNN Thursday night by Falcon, the 6-year-old boy, "it became very clear to us at that point that they were lying," Alderden said. But in order to get to the truth, "it was very important that they maintain their trust with us." So investigators misled the media while they carried out their "game plan" of gathering the truth.

"Thank you, cable news, for being so fucking predictable. You were a big help."

I think screwing the emergency services around for a few hours so's you can get some publicity for your views about marxist pussified lizard people running the govmint is reasonably heinous.

Er, emergency services are needed to save lives. When you tie them up for five or six hours straight not only are you pushing your stupid self ahead of people who may be in dire need, but also these services cost one fucking hell of a lot of money. If this was a hoax, I say fine the guy about $300,000 and put him jail for six months.
