one of my BFFs went to Ramen Setagaya last night and said that there's been a change of ownership and the quality has gone WAYYYYYYYYYYY downhill since our last visit.

that's what i've been hearing. BOO to that.

i still never made it to lobster night at p.a.

Lobo is terrible. Used to be Harvest. Which also wasn't great. But was pretty good in the early days of BOCOCA. Good meatloaf. Good brunch. Trend brunch. It was the only brunch place actually.

I'm more excited/confused about this. A new fast food rest. opening up in my hood called Jollibee. Philippino fast food. But no spam. Just some really disgusting looking stuff. Check out the menu.

If by some unhappy and unlikely chain of events you happen to be walking down Court St. in BoCoCa and actually think you might want to try a Tex Mex place called Lobo (which I doubt you would anyway), do not do so. It sucks.

I also feel like I should suggest Yama but it's probably over the price range you wanted and might be a long ass wait for five people

the time i tried to go, yama was a long-ass wait for one person. i gave up after 30 minutes.

vanessa's dumpling house is yummy, cheap and pretty quick but not like, a "nice" place to eat or anything.

you could try Ippudo on 4th ave and 10th street, but there will probably be a wait.

parents in town! i'm thinking Dressler cuz i've been wanting to go.

I ate at Monkeytown last night. I really like the food at that place.

oh i missed a lot of these suggestions--we just went to chat n chew, it was nice and not too pricey. i didnt finish my mac and cheese.

I have heard that Joya is good for Thai (it's on Court St. in what I guess is Cobble Hill - sorry for using "BoCoCa" earlier, I just really don't know the boundaries yet)

i go to their sister restaurant all the time, Song (in the slope). it's like my favorite restaurant.

yeah, we almost went to Song once but there was a wait and it was loud and dark, so we went to Long Tan down fifth avenue. Was mediocre/unmemorable and ever-so-slightly overpriced.

Secondary question: is Song the Sea of Park Slope?

ok what about this Aurora

I've been to Aurora. Food varied but ranged from good to excellent. The atmosphere is great and the prices are reasonable. The coffee kind of sucked for an otherwise good Italian place, but that could have just been whoever was running the machine at the moment.

why the fuck aren't there prices on the menu online? is it $$$$$?

i've never been to aurora - the menu just seems boring to me. but i'm not the biggest fan of italian.

the menus look different in brooklyn and soho. the brooklyn one has prices, too, which like, helps (ffs)

I was at the brooklyn one, fwiw. We had some awesome appetizers, and the fish was good but the lamb was kind of disappointing. Deserts were really good.

do you want yr parents to have some novel experience or just a sort of nice dinner?

i ate the arepas at caracas last nite again - sooo good - tho i notice the staff there has a weird persecution complex - the hostess accused me of trying to start a fight w/her when i wasnt doing anything of the sort

i think they need a bigger restaurant

yeah as far as i could tell, there were not a bunch of SUVs double-parked in front of song and the sidewalk in front wasn't clogged with overly orange looking people smoking.

soba-ya is awesome japanese right across the street from tsampa. obv a focus on noodles so you have to be into that but they have lots other stuff too. fun for visitors cause its japanese thats not sushi. also being that its a soba/udon place its fancier than yr standard ramen type place.

Izakaya Ten in Chelsea. Great pub food.
Ushi Wakamaru in SoHo/West Village. Best sushi south of mid-town.
EN Brasserie in West Village. Upscale small plates.
LAN in East Village. Great Steakhouse.
