Why do C4 broadcast unfunny Simpsons eps over this?
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 15 October 2009 09:25 (sixteen years ago)
South Park probably not a winner with Ofcom at 6 in the evening.
― Music should never have changed anymore after my mid 80s (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 15 October 2009 09:26 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah they used to broadcast it at night, but its a strange decision not to broadcast this at all. Really dislike any of the other cartoons on offer (Family Guy or what have you)
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 15 October 2009 09:28 (sixteen years ago)
Family Guy is much more consistently fun, or less intermittently annoying, than South Park.
Really the answer to any query about Channel 4 scheduling is "because Channel 4 is fucking terrible".
― Music should never have changed anymore after my mid 80s (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 15 October 2009 09:31 (sixteen years ago)
cheap but hilarious is otm. applies to practically every thing Butters says
not really.. clever... but a lot more fun than last week's obviously-trying-too-hard "i see dead celebrities" crap
― Nhex, Thursday, 15 October 2009 09:56 (sixteen years ago)
Butters is seriously amazing and I don't think South Park would have survived for as along as it has without him.

"Family Guy is much more consistently fun, or less intermittently annoying, than South Park"
This is crazy talk...South Park rarely misses the mark. Maybe its a British/American difference of humour/humor...but I think South Park has, if anything, become better over the years. Last seasons election/Ocean's 11 parody? The High School Musical parody? Twilight? All genius. They push the vulgarity limit, but always with tongue firmly in cheek. Family Guy, while "fun", will always be a sub-par South Park/Simpsons rip-off, that tries to push the limit to annoying ends...
― Space Is The Place, Thursday, 15 October 2009 14:17 (sixteen years ago)
Nothing to do with US/UK differences, I think a lot of people agree that 90 percent of the satirical or parody eps of South Park are like being shouted at by a couple of Ron Paulites for 20 minutes except less lol
― Music should never have changed anymore after my mid 80s (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 15 October 2009 14:21 (sixteen years ago)
Not that critical reviews are necessarily a good signifier, but I have never seen a review of South Park that called it less than brilliant.
― Space Is The Place, Thursday, 15 October 2009 14:27 (sixteen years ago)
Results 1 - 10 of about 20,400 for "south park is shit". (0.18 seconds)
― Music should never have changed anymore after my mid 80s (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 15 October 2009 14:28 (sixteen years ago)
Don't get me wrong, there are eps that I really love and as was said upthread Butters is just one of the greatest TV characters of all time but the quality control has been all over the place from way back.

Noodle, 20,350 of those results said "south park is shit your pants hilarious".

ha ha - i have to side with Space Place on this one. SP > FGand while i love Butters i think the character that gets the least amount of credit for making SP awesome is Randy.

Randy gets kinda over-used nowadays, don't think he can top that Softball episode.

i don't think i've seen that one?

for any big fans: there was a 2-part interview with Matt Stone on Bill Simmon's "B.S. Report" podcast a few weeks back that was fairly interesting.
― hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 15 October 2009 15:49 (sixteen years ago)
the first 2 episodes of this season have been pretty awful imo - weird that they (unless i am misremembering) spent the whole players ball directly quoting "American Pimp". I mean, unless a lot more people saw that documentary than I think, whats the point?
― i am a true waht? i am a true stfu-schnick (jjjusten), Thursday, 15 October 2009 16:06 (sixteen years ago)
I was a little "O RLY?" at the police chief in this week's episode
― RETARTED (HI DERE), Thursday, 15 October 2009 16:07 (sixteen years ago)
I also think it helps to remember that South Park is primarily written to make Trey and Matt laugh, so any enjoyment on the part of the viewer is kind of incidental to the process. It doesn't matter how many people have seen "American Pimp" because obv Trey and/or Matt did and thought sticking Butters in the middle of it was funny.
The ACORN gag did make me chuckle but most of the lols I had came from uncritical "YAY BUTTERS" reactions.

AMAZING ep!!!!

Do you know what I am saying?
― Whay!ney G. Welldamnen (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Thursday, 15 October 2009 17:37 (sixteen years ago)
i knew after the car scene with the cop that they were obviously gonna keep escalating that joke and I couldn't think of what they would do next but yeah it got better
― Whay!ney G. Welldamnen (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Thursday, 15 October 2009 17:39 (sixteen years ago)
Have we seen Officer Barbrady in recent years, or did they stop using him once they figured out it would be more fun to do cop genre stuff by having a full-on SP Police Dept?
― kingfish, Thursday, 15 October 2009 17:51 (sixteen years ago)
and the full ep is already online: http://www.southparkstudios.com/guide/1309/
― kingfish, Thursday, 15 October 2009 17:55 (sixteen years ago)
Barbrady was always a weak link IMO.
― chap, Thursday, 15 October 2009 18:54 (sixteen years ago)
yeah i agree not funny.
this cop is always hilarious
― Whay!ney G. Welldamnen (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Thursday, 15 October 2009 20:25 (sixteen years ago)
speaking of barbrady, I still <3 the chicken fucker episode from season 1 (2?) - but in retrospect it's surprising that they're not big ayn rand fans themselves
― iatee, Thursday, 15 October 2009 20:29 (sixteen years ago)
The more Butters the better. The show a couple of seasons ago where Cartman sucks his dick while he's asleep to prove Butters is gay is maybe my favourite of the recent years. Best recent Randy is maybe the balsa wood/alien invasion ep? Or the Great Depression/internet porn one?
― I thought I could make it work because you look a bit like a man (aldo), Friday, 16 October 2009 13:32 (sixteen years ago)
randy also classic in the bono poo ep
― wilter, Friday, 16 October 2009 13:55 (sixteen years ago)
randy goat is the alcoholic/virgin mother episode
― Des Leppilen (darraghmac), Friday, 16 October 2009 14:01 (sixteen years ago)
jeez i just typed randy goat, wtf
Best Randy bit is him getting into a stringent dad-fighting regime in The Losing Edge, getting up at 6am, cracking an egg yolk into a pint glass and then pouring it into a frying pan and opening a beer. Also his crap jump for joy as the Joe Esposito song kicks in at the end.

― Jacob Sanders, Sunday, 18 October 2009 09:45 (sixteen years ago)
the first 2 episodes of this season have been pretty awful imo
I couldn't disagree with you more..
There's hardly any "limit pushing" in Family Guy. Their perception of what makes a joke is essentially the same as Robot Chicken, which is "pop culture reference = joke." South Park is full of actual crafted jokes. That's the main difference.
― billstevejim, Sunday, 18 October 2009 18:18 (sixteen years ago)
Also I had no idea the last episode contained movie references, and I thought it was lolz x 1000!
― billstevejim, Sunday, 18 October 2009 18:19 (sixteen years ago)
i think they pull lot from pimps up, hos down in this ep, esp the "you know what i'm sayin'" stuff.

slightly NSFW due to actual language inserted between all the "you know what i'm sayin'" sayin'.
― slugbuggy, Monday, 19 October 2009 23:17 (sixteen years ago)
I just watched the Jonas Brothers episode – it is amazing how shocking it is seeing Mickey swear. I was way surprised Disney hasn't taken this to the supreme court.
― existential eggs (Abbott), Monday, 19 October 2009 23:30 (sixteen years ago)
"South Park is full of actual crafted jokes."
I'll grant you South Park is more concerned with plotting and having a "point," but the jokes themselves have never strayed far from "character reacts in some ludicrous and/or filthy way to pop cultural event/icon" or re-enacting some bits of pop culture as homage. Have they upped their jokesmanship recently?
― Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 00:29 (sixteen years ago)
Man this week's was a totally dumb, pointless episode.
― hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 22 October 2009 19:31 (sixteen years ago)
I hadn't watched a new south park episode in a long time, but I liked it. any non-libertarian sp episode is generally pretty funny, but I stopped watching because there have been fewer and fewer of those.
