This episode actually make me laugh quite a lot! Somebody here must be wrong! WRONG

The nation's most valiant right back (Suedey 2), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 19:59 (sixteen years ago)

i was really stoned too. no laughter. i did enjoy barney's mugging at the end when he realized ted is single and happy and he is in a relationship.

cutty, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:00 (sixteen years ago)

Laughed at the Innskeeper/crazy Marshall&Lily/ CAT FUNERAL SONG!!!! way more than Robin 101.

Not overly fond of the way they've handled the Barney/Robin (can we go TWOP can call them Bobin? Barbin?) relationship, it has not brought the funny at all.

smashing aspirant (milo z), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:04 (sixteen years ago)

to be fair i kinda hate tv so if the show is just becoming "str8 classic sitcom jokes" it figures i'd be nonplussed, but it's not like i'm pining for "punchlineless moments of social awkwardness" or for someone to glance into the documentary camera or aynthing. just like this show when it's a little less shrill burlesque (took me a while to get into 30 rock) and more earthbound/relatable.

da croupier, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:05 (sixteen years ago)

Cat funeral made up for the weak points in this episode.

Nicolars was the drummer for Gay Dad (Nicole), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:08 (sixteen years ago)

This show is all over the place, frankly. Worst episode for me - to my memory at least - was the 'Barney is secretly married!!!1' thing, which just... ugh. I thought that was bad. Still had its moments though.

xp meow

The nation's most valiant right back (Suedey 2), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:08 (sixteen years ago)

Surely BarneyRObin = BRo, especially considering Barney's obsession w/ the word.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:08 (sixteen years ago)

even that was tainted for me by the weirdness of marshall ending "cat-sitting" with the cat's apparent death. shouldn't it have just cut from happy sitting to the funeral without explanation? sorry if my desire for plausibility pisses somebody off.

da croupier, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:10 (sixteen years ago)

that meaning "cat funeral"

da croupier, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:10 (sixteen years ago)

If they hadn't shown the open window, the funeral wouldn't have been funny. Then it's just a dead cat, and the only clue about Marshall involvement is Lily's mom trying to strangle him for 1 frame (which only made sense because of the open window).

smashing aspirant (milo z), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:15 (sixteen years ago)

Barney's secret marriage was a pretty lame conceit, yeah

Gucci_LaFleur (some dude), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:17 (sixteen years ago)

but why would he end a happy montage with a shot of him looking shocked at a cat going out a window? and wouldn't we assume the cat died because of him if the funeral song? immediately following his sitting song? small potatoes but i really hope someone got fired over this.

da croupier, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:17 (sixteen years ago)

woops, extra question mark there

da croupier, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:18 (sixteen years ago)

expecting the viewers to be able to make an inference that marshall somehow killed the cat is too much i guess?

cutty, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:19 (sixteen years ago)

this is a cbs show u dum fuq

da croupier, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:20 (sixteen years ago)

great job on this thread you guys

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:21 (sixteen years ago)

i think the window shot is there so you assume he let the cat get out and killed it out of negligence, and not that he accidentally stepped on it or fed it rat poison or something much more grisly

Gucci_LaFleur (some dude), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:21 (sixteen years ago)

gouda anyone?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:23 (sixteen years ago)

when marshall was looking out the open window his face looked like it had been scratched up by the cat too - think we were supposed to infer ~something had gone down~ also wasnt him taking care of the cat --> cat dying a pretty obv (if hilarious) direction to take the joke?

history maybe (Lamp), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:24 (sixteen years ago)

Why would Marshall make a music video with some hippie-looking dude and Lily on drums?
Why would Marshall obsess over Gouda?
Why would Marshall and Barney make wagers involving slapping the shit out of each other?
If Robin was a famous Canadian pop star in the '90s, why do her videos look like Cyndi Lauper knockoffs?
How does Barney not have syphilis?

etc. etc. etc.

smashing aspirant (milo z), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:25 (sixteen years ago)

guys you are forgetting that within the context of the show, it was marshall who assembled these photo montages. please consider his motivations for using the photo of the cat jumping out in the window in his montage in all of your analyses.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:26 (sixteen years ago)

If Robin was a famous Canadian pop star in the '90s, why do her videos look like Cyndi Lauper knockoffs?

you answered your own question here

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:27 (sixteen years ago)

Because Canada only caught up to the 80s a decade late dude.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:27 (sixteen years ago)

ha xpost.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:27 (sixteen years ago)

the cheese was Marshall's only food responsibility so he got overzealous about it and "the 80's didn't come to Canada til like '93" (xpost)

Gucci_LaFleur (some dude), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:28 (sixteen years ago)

How does Barney not have syphilis?

Teenagers not children

The nation's most valiant right back (Suedey 2), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:31 (sixteen years ago)

Um, guys, I know all the explanations. Just pointing out the regular absurdity of the show - looking for realistic character motivation in creating creepy/obsessive photo montages is kind of silly.

smashing aspirant (milo z), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:32 (sixteen years ago)

Marshall is all the explanation I need

The nation's most valiant right back (Suedey 2), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:33 (sixteen years ago)

Same for Barney

Also Ted = douche explains an awful lot there

and so on

The nation's most valiant right back (Suedey 2), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:33 (sixteen years ago)

Suedey's username still makes me laugh btw.

your spelling jumped the shark with the post

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:39 (sixteen years ago)

but what did you think of the episode, max

cutty, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 21:01 (sixteen years ago)

i thought it was OK

Bobby Wo (max), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 21:42 (sixteen years ago)

well that was kind of awful, even if marshall did rip up a phone book.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 13:41 (sixteen years ago)

LOLed at kenny rogers' audiobook about sparky

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 13:42 (sixteen years ago)

Robin/Barney angle was OK. Lily being a wet blanket in generic sitcom jam was kinda lame. Kenny Rogers gag was amusing. Fiero/500 Miles callback was great.

Nhex, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 13:49 (sixteen years ago)

I liked the Kenny Rogers and all of the Canadian baiting. The Tim Hortons looked very realistic.

Nicolars (Nicole), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 13:49 (sixteen years ago)

when max says he thought is was OK, he really thought it was shit, but doesn't want to sound like me bitching

it sucked

cutty, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 13:51 (sixteen years ago)

oh that was last week

cutty, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 13:52 (sixteen years ago)

this week sucked too
