What happened to MAD TV?
It's cast was much funnier than the SNL casts it competed against, imo.

Bill Hader as James Carville has become my new favorite thing of all time.
Also, I've grown to appreciate Gilly.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 11 October 2009 05:09 (sixteen years ago)
I have a lot more patience for SNL during its crap years than a lot of people, but god, this season has been horrific. I guess amy poehler had been holding this on her shoulders for a long time.
wiig has some comedic sense to her and I could like her in the right situation...but all of her characters make me want to turn off the tv.
― iatee, Sunday, 11 October 2009 07:14 (sixteen years ago)
her *i am making faces and acting socially unaware* schtick works really well in 'adventureland' imo, and pretty infrequently on snl
― kushighway (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 11 October 2009 07:19 (sixteen years ago)
that was the first funny carville sketch though xps
― alex b. skeaton (tremendoid), Sunday, 11 October 2009 07:35 (sixteen years ago)
Not a fan of Wiig on SNL. At times she seems so redundant of improv comedy formulas for how to be funny or create a character. xpost
― Cunga, Sunday, 11 October 2009 07:37 (sixteen years ago)
Loved this.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Sunday, 11 October 2009 07:43 (sixteen years ago)
The sauce dip and last week's "Happy birthday, ground!" = show redeemed for me somewhat
― Pete Scholtes, Sunday, 11 October 2009 23:48 (sixteen years ago)
oh my god, fred's getting LAZY with his obama act.
― YOUR MOMS SPOT HERON WITH NO HANDS I'M SMACKIN HER (Beatrix Kiddo), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:43 (sixteen years ago)
That Food Network sketch was some serious belly laughs for me.
― as strikingly artificial and perfect as a wizard's cap (HI DERE), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:45 (sixteen years ago)
fred started lazy. motherfucker needs to stop, whether or not they ever find someone else to play obama.
― Gucci_LaFleur (some dude), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:47 (sixteen years ago)
the pool sketch was also belly laughs to me, but that's just because I giggle at the word "Tampax"
― as strikingly artificial and perfect as a wizard's cap (HI DERE), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:48 (sixteen years ago)
"man the digital shorts really hit rock bottom this week"
al, this week's digi almost redeemed last week's. ok, no, it DID redeem it.
"i'm an ADULT"
― YOUR MOMS SPOT HERON WITH NO HANDS I'M SMACKIN HER (Beatrix Kiddo), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:50 (sixteen years ago)
i'm not a PART of your SYSTEM
― chemical ali v. chemical frazier (m bison), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:51 (sixteen years ago)
my DAD'S not a PHONE
the pool sketch was maybe one of the best three things about that episode. honestly, i'm always praying for an SNL where EVERY skit knocks it outta the park instead of just a couple. though, you know, vinny vedecci (or whatever) can do no wrong by me. (best vinny v: the seth "bearman" rogan one)
― YOUR MOMS SPOT HERON WITH NO HANDS I'M SMACKIN HER (Beatrix Kiddo), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:52 (sixteen years ago)
"my DAD'S not a PHONE"
i was howling with laughter at that one!
"i'm an ADULT" was the rock bottom i was referring to -- the one this past week was OK but kind of forgettable
― Gucci_LaFleur (some dude), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:54 (sixteen years ago)
My main problem with the impression, maybe I've said it here before, is that he's clearly taken pains to get the cadence of Obama's speech down without even bothering to modulate the timbre of his voice.
― M. Grissom/DeShields (jaymc), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:57 (sixteen years ago)
yeah absolutely -- he has a tiny kernel of accuracy in there but he's still playing it w/ essentially the same voice as like 10 other characters he does
― Gucci_LaFleur (some dude), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:58 (sixteen years ago)
His Obama is way better than 90% of Hammond's impressions.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 21:00 (sixteen years ago)
okay crazypants
― as strikingly artificial and perfect as a wizard's cap (HI DERE), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 21:01 (sixteen years ago)
I didn't say it was a good impression.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 21:04 (sixteen years ago)
how many good obama impressions are there out there?? it doesn't help that SNL's only actual black dude is a fat guy who is terrible at impressions / acting
