Just 9 blocks from the waterfront, the Citadel has been restored to look much as the fort did in 1856.

You’ll find thick granite walls topped by grassy embankments; in the large cobblestone courtyard you'll find costumed people in kilts and bearskin hats playing bagpipes and firing the noon cannon – a grand tradition since 1749. Find out what life was like at the fort, as tours will show you the barracks and other chambers. While meandering through the halls, stop a soldier, bagpiper, or washerwoman and ask them any questions you may have.
