Liked the bit at the end about the crime show where the actors are all Norwegian.

my favorite moment of the show was lady gaga struggling to sit down at the piano bench w/ her stupid nasa costume on.
― iatee, Sunday, 4 October 2009 08:46 (sixteen years ago)
Much better than last week. I might grow to like these new girls yet, although I'm still bummed about Casey.
― Michael F Gill, Monday, 5 October 2009 02:57 (sixteen years ago)
did morbius write the opening obama sketch?
What was this like? SNL's usual angle is that of a Giuliani Democrat.
― A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Monday, 5 October 2009 03:07 (sixteen years ago)
Th joke was that the right wing is going crazy over how Obama's changing the country, when in fact he hasn't even done a single thing he said he was going to do. There was a checklist. I laughed.

Found it... reasonably OTM sketch. And I didn't laugh once.
― A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Monday, 5 October 2009 03:19 (sixteen years ago)
(I mean, if even SNL writers know that the joke is Obama's snake oil, you may wish to postpone that Republican Party autopsy)

Yeah Sandberg's thing was wtf and just bad. Sandberg in general was just bad.
Gotta admit, though, I liked the dog food commercial.

fake commercials are so in their wheelhouse that it's almost hard to congratulate them
― autogoon delight (J0rdan S.), Monday, 5 October 2009 03:32 (sixteen years ago)
yeah that was the kind of thing that they could've done in '92 and would've been just as funny, no more no less
― some dude, Monday, 5 October 2009 03:37 (sixteen years ago)
xp Yeah, and it wasn't even a great one. But I've been torn recently between buying the cat food that I usually get and some cheap awfulness, and I was like, fuck it, it's a cat. She'll either eat it or starve to death, and I know which she's gonna pick.

I liked Ahmadinejad's wife, actually. He farts under the sheets and blames it on Israel. It's such an old joke, but lol.

Madonna is so sad right now.
This.
― Nathalie (stevienixed), Monday, 5 October 2009 07:25 (sixteen years ago)
Dollars to donuts it was written by Jim Downey, SNL's long-time political writer and devout right-winger (and Robert Downey, Jr.'s uncle). I don't think his writing a completely in-character sketch exactly sounds the Dems' death knell.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 5 October 2009 12:51 (sixteen years ago)
yeah, that sketch is so clearly written from a "right wing" perspective. Keep drinkin' that Kool Aid!

I didn't have my glasses on so I couldn't tell - was that really Madonna? Someone upthread called her sad, I thought it was Wiig in costume? If not, without my glasses, Madonna is looking good..
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 5 October 2009 14:26 (sixteen years ago)
i had assumed it was either of the two new women on the show but at the end, ryan reynolds thanked madonna
― xuxa pitts (donna rouge), Monday, 5 October 2009 15:08 (sixteen years ago)
Hader doesn't even have to say anything, the faces he makes as Spector or that weird alien sports guy are priceless.
That really was Madonna! The arms are a dead giveaway. She does look good, but there's something kind of pathetic about the Gaga fight -- at some point you should stop trying to be down with the kids.
― The ever dapper nicolars (Nicole), Monday, 5 October 2009 15:10 (sixteen years ago)
That was most certainly Madonna. But I'll agree she looked way younger than she usually does. And that whoe Madge/Gaga thing was pretty lame.
Morbs, Downey has the ability, despite his political leanings, to tackle different sides of an issue. He's written a lot of GOP-skewering sketches, as well. If you could just re-read that post of mine real quick, you'll see that I didn't say that the sketch was written from a right-wing persepective. Rather, I'm guessing it was written by right-winger Downey because my understanding is that most political sketches that are critical of the Democrats are written by Downey.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 5 October 2009 15:11 (sixteen years ago)
I had no idea that Jim Downey was related to RDJ. Is that how RDJ ended up on Saturday Night Live in the first place?
― The ever dapper nicolars (Nicole), Monday, 5 October 2009 15:13 (sixteen years ago)
ok
― A Patch on Blazing Saddles (Dr Morbius), Monday, 5 October 2009 15:15 (sixteen years ago)
...bu then, by current standards, that really doesn't make him sound like a right-winger.
I was at this radio interview, and they mostly talked about Fey's Sarah Palin:

xxpost
Very possibly, Nicole. I mean, most of the cast that season consisted of semi-famous actors (RDJ, Anthony Michael Hall, Joan Cusack), but that would've been right after Downey returned to SNL, so it was probably a factor.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 5 October 2009 15:22 (sixteen years ago)
oh wow, that is kind of sad that it was really Madonna. My boyfriend & I were mesmerized by the "incredible makeup work" they'd done on what we presumed was an SNL actress but I agree, she's a bit too old to do something that ridiculous.. Good for her for looking so good though! I fell asleep on the couch before the ending credits, as I always do..this time I missed weekend update too though :(
