There have been a few proposals in recent decades to change the name of Knoxville's Gay Street, for the reasons you'd expect. Hasn't happened, tho.

i don't really understand biscuits. or bacon fat.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

caitlin, have you tried some of the other suggestions on here? Drinking beer at the Long Branch is highly recommended, for instance. As is King Tut's.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i only just got here on sunday! also i'm supposed to be doing math but i just got internet an hour ago. i ate at oodles on monday because it was the only place open. it was ok. also i am only 20 so no one is allowed to give me the beer.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, I bet the Longbrach will serve you. Maybe not, though, it's pretty severe around the campus. Go find roxymuzak, she lives on my parents' street! She will totally hook you up!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Tomato Head's closed on Mondays, right? That's the place to go next time you're on the square.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Thursday, 2 June 2005 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Also go to my friend Andie's dress shop. It's called Vagabondia.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Thursday, 2 June 2005 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Sunrise, one of my favorite silent films ever, is playing at the Knoxville Museum of Art tomorrow (Thursday, 6/2). And the jaw-droppingly great Melt-Banana are playing the Pilot Light next Wednesday (6/8).

(Hope nobody minds if I plug my Chattanooga-centric music/film blog: http://www.livejournal.com/users/spap_oop/ )

Ernest P. (ernestp), Thursday, 2 June 2005 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Melt-Banana are playing at the Pilot Light????!!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 2 June 2005 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I saw the flier for that in their window. Did a doubletake.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Thursday, 2 June 2005 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been eyeing this thread for a while now and I've been suspicious of things like Mike (to whom I'd like to be similar) and all I can really add is:

1. Gelatine
2. Johnny

Unfortunate Prankster (Unfortunate Prankster), Thursday, 2 June 2005 02:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 3 June 2005 05:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm beginning to have fun. which farmer's market is better, knox county regional or market square? i need vegetables

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Thursday, 9 June 2005 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't been to the regional market in years. It used to be pretty good, but then there was a lot of political hoopla about who was going to run it, so I have idea what's there now. The stuff on Market Square is usually pretty good. I used to buy some great homemade onion relish from one of the people there.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Thursday, 9 June 2005 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to live in Melrose Hall room D303. You took that 2nd photograph from somewhere almost in view of my old window. Yes, on Melrose Place. Did they close that dorm yet or what?

TOMBOT, Thursday, 9 June 2005 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm not sure if it's a dorm but it's still there and looks open

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Thursday, 9 June 2005 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I have touched that red panda!

Caitlin, I'm glad you're having more fun. Knoxville is truly awesome. Done any of the other things on the thread? Seriously, Sequoyah Hills park is grebt this time of year.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, attn: Tracer (since you frequent this thread) I am moving off the Lane. :(

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 16 June 2005 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

So who's taking over the house on the hill? That's sad news, roxy.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 16 June 2005 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

It's still Brandt and me that own it, I'm giving it up and moving on. We can't really feasibly live together anymore. :(

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 16 June 2005 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 23 June 2005 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 23 June 2005 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
oops hi. i have 2 more weeks here. my roommates refuse, refuse, to go to the egyptian place so i think i'm going to go by myself. one of them (a girl from tennessee) pretty much only eats red meat, hates vegetables, and hates restaurants that aren't american. she never even tries things! once i had to go to applebee's restaurant of barf and eat chicken because of her. i haven't tried to suggest sunspot to them but if there's no meat she won't eat it, so i'm going there by myself too.

ok enough complaining. i went to mackay's a while ago, but what is a used bookstore that's more...used bookstore-ish?

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Friday, 8 July 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

My friend John has a nice place called the Book Eddy, next to Disc Exchange on Chapman Highway. (At least, I think it's still there. I didn't actually go check last time I was in town.) You could drop by on your way to King Tut's.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Friday, 8 July 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

ok i'll go there right now!

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Friday, 8 July 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

god, just MAKE her go to king tut's. the food isn't "weird" at all, the guy who runs it is very aware of knoxvillians' leeriness towards any food that is not red meat + salt.. if he, his wife, and his daughter can't charm the pants off your roommate then yr roommate is not suitable friend material in my opinion.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 8 July 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

ok i think she went home for the weekend so i'm going to try (again) to get the other ones to go. if not, i'll just go. i just went to book eddy, it was awesome! i was going to go to disc exchange afterward but on the walk there from book eddy i stubbed my toe really badly so i had to go home because i didn't want to get blood all over their floor. i'll go some other time.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Friday, 8 July 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

we went to king tut's! it was incredible, i'm going back before i leave.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Friday, 8 July 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

Mo's a trip, isn't he? Yay for King Tut's and Book Eddy.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Saturday, 9 July 2005 01:48 (twenty years ago)

you were five mins from mine and tracer's cribbers

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 9 July 2005 02:44 (twenty years ago)

four months pass...
it warms the cockles of my heart that i may have played some small part in getting caitlin to go to KING TUT's.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Vice President Dick Cheney was heckled by protesters Tuesday as he spoke at the groundbreaking for a public policy center honoring former Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker.

During Cheney's brief remarks, about a half-dozen people protesting the war in Iraq yelled, "War, what is it good for?" and held up a large banner saying, "Peace Now."

Cheney continued speaking and didn't acknowledge the protesters, who were escorted from the ceremony inside the University of Tennessee's basketball arena.

About 50 protesters, most of them appearing to be college age, demonstrated outside the arena. Several carried signs, including one that read "Honor Baker, Impeach Cheney."

Cheney said that Baker, a Republican who was President Reagan's chief of staff and ambassador to Japan, has brought tremendous credit to the university, to Tennessee and to the nation.

"It's good to know that far into the future people will come to this place and learn of Howard's career and his deep belief in the nobility of public service," Cheney said.

About 400 people attended ceremony, which coincided with Baker's 80th birthday.

The $25 million privately financed Baker Center is being created to foster greater appreciation of public service and understanding of government.

Baker is still remembered for posing a key question during the 1973 Watergate hearings that rocked the Nixon White House: "What did the president know and when did he know it?"

"applebee's restaurant of barf" is my nu-hell

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

God, Applebee's is poor.

Are you in town, Tracer?
