Addams Family had Yvonne DeCarlo in that shroud, Lurch, Hand, the indelible chracter of Wednesday Cousin It, Gomez (with a brilliant performance by John Astin) Cousin It (ok Pugsley always sucked) and that theme song.

Thanks to Charles Addams' brilliant cartoons a whole new family was born that, while drawing on archetypal horror images, slanted them anew. Loving, ooky and kooky.

The Munsters offered up a slight take off on Universal Films Horror characters that never brought much to those and functioned as much more than a one note gag.

(I may be biased by having fallen in love in my impressionable youth in Ethiopia with a collection of short stories in my school library based on The Addams Family. Following that, I discovered that the great aunt of a college friend having dumped Charles Addams served as his 'inspiration' for Morticia which just made me even more enamored with the show as I tried to imagine this woman as Morticia.)

The Munsters had the better theme song.

Hand was actually named Thing. and Addams Family was way better. Much darker and funnier at the same time. So many great characters: Uncle Fester, Lurch, Cousin Itt. and the comic strip rules too.

The Addams family was probably a better show, objectively, but The Munsters is more fun to talk about.

As Jim said in the original question, Incredible. TV found room for both of these weird sitcoms about happy, but perversely oriented families in the mid sixties

gomez and morticia = all-time favourite on-screen couple.

the funniest scenes on either were between Gwynne and Lewis on The Munsters, but Addamses were generally more sophisticated even tho it was sitcommed up from the Chas A vision.

I think an R-rated remake of the Addams Family on HBO, :30 episodes, Morticia's plunging necklines and Lurch decapitating salesmen, would be good.

OG Addams TV shows are amazing. Gomez standing on his head while smoking a cigar, 'Tish plunking away atonally on an exotic stringed instrument, etc. The episode where Lurch accidentally becomes a teen rock idol by grunting over chamber music. All of it, so so good.

The movies are great in spite of the lazy plots and have the best casting ever, almost better than the TV show.

Bryan Fuller attempted this like, what, a year ago? Maybe failed Munsters reboots no one asked for will become an annual tradition.

"What if regular Brooklyn residents are the REAL monsters?" is a pretty straight-over-the-plate pitch though.

So, uh, I guess all it took for a Munsters reboot to get off the ground was for Rob Zombie to take the helm?

From the first moment I saw the show, I hated Eddie Munster. I also hated the bland, 'nice girl' daughter who was the 'normie' thrown in so the writers could play around with a bigger variety of plots; she was so bland and awful she basically disappeared on the screen like a black hole from which no charisma could escape, so the writers wisely tossed her overboard in most of the episodes.

1) Rob wants you to know he's recreating some of his favorite movies.
2) Rob want to play some classic rock songs he likes for your.
3) Rob want to show you his wife is keeping it tight.

This looks terrible. It looks like Zombie has followed Kevin Smith down the "I'm just going to have fun making whatever the fuck I want with buds, I don't care who watches it", which, I guess I can respect on some level.

Zombie is apparently an enormous Munsters fan? Although you'd be forgiven for thinking he felt a while different way about the Munsters based on that trailer.
