I just bought these but in brown. Hopefully I look as cool as this bro. http://www.klasik.org/jpegs/satisfied%20customers/wcp1/walter2.jpg
Also, I see a lot of the kids wearing wayfarers these days. Is this a good or a bad thing?
― Drooone, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 01:47 (nineteen years ago)
i wear them. they are classic.
― lfam, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 01:50 (nineteen years ago)
I hate the prescription sunglasses I got a few years ago...small frames, wtf was I thinking.
― Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 02:01 (nineteen years ago)
I tried the wayfarers but they looked horrible on me. I can't be trusted with expensive sunglasses because I lose them. Current favorites are $10 Target specials - dark red, round, and on the large side like so:

― ENBB, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 02:29 (nineteen years ago)
I want yellow-to-amber sunglasses for the road. Where's a good place to look? Like RH, they gotta be available in prescription.
― Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 03:00 (nineteen years ago)
Droone, you must wear the moustache with them too.
― Hard like armour, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 05:59 (nineteen years ago)
I found a pair of mirrored Aviators at Leeds festival last year and they're amazing. They make me look like goose from Top Gun.
― The Wayward Johnny B, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 07:45 (nineteen years ago)
I am a combination of ENBB and Rock Hardy. I bought expensive, really nice, prescription sunglasses two summers in a row and lost them within weeks of getting them. Now I have a pair of regular glasses converted into sunglasses but I hate them and never wear them because they're small and look more like medically-tinted glasses than stylish sunglasses. Rubbish.
― accentmonkey, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 07:51 (nineteen years ago)
I'm a Persol kinda guy. My current pair:

― baaderonixx, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 09:08 (nineteen years ago)
I also have a pair of large Rayban aviators. I tire of them though. That's why I went with the slightly different (and smaller) caravans.
― Drooone, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 23:49 (nineteen years ago)
I have Marc Jacobs aviators, sadly they don't block the wind as this pic shows!

ronan & baaderonix are pathetic.

― Ronan, Thursday, 7 June 2007 00:23 (eighteen years ago)
you just don't add up. get over it.
― deeznuts, Thursday, 7 June 2007 00:23 (eighteen years ago)
Deeznuts, I'm gonna say it cause you can't see it, as I'm wearing my Miu Miu sunglasses, I'm rolling my eyes.
― stevienixed, Thursday, 7 June 2007 00:25 (eighteen years ago)
(ENBB is hott though.)
― stevienixed, Thursday, 7 June 2007 00:26 (eighteen years ago)
baader's & ronans' glasses are HOTTT. I love aviators but they make me look like Count Chubulon.
I've got bangs to my eyebrows and a really round face so most any pair of non-lennon sunglasses make me look like a dome of Shelley Duvall hair+a black field+a semicircle of skin. Plus it's hard to find sunglasses that don't squish my big head. So forever I will squint.

sungLASSES, to be less crude...
― Just got offed, Friday, 8 June 2007 14:48 (eighteen years ago)
I can't wear sunglasses because I have regular glasses. Although I think I may look into this look:

― kenan, Friday, 8 June 2007 14:52 (eighteen years ago)
contact lenses, dude, it's what i did!
i have very fetching ray-bans (bought by my dad when he went to new york), but no camera handy :(
― Just got offed, Friday, 8 June 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)
No, I like glasses, I hate the maintenance of contact lenses. I need to be able to pass out at any time, at a moment's notice, with impunity.
― kenan, Friday, 8 June 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)
carry a small lens-case around with a bit of cleaning-fluid?
― Just got offed, Friday, 8 June 2007 15:06 (eighteen years ago)
Dude, you're lucky I remembered to bring pants.
― kenan, Friday, 8 June 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)
:-D
― Just got offed, Friday, 8 June 2007 15:19 (eighteen years ago)
Eh, I love my (regular) glasses as well. No contacts for me. Then again I have only (re)started glasses about a half year ago? Sth like that.
Hurting, you look GREBT (w those sunglasses)!
― stevienixed, Friday, 8 June 2007 15:37 (eighteen years ago)
I want some of those tinted contact lenses that the outfielders wear.
― Pleasant Plains, Friday, 8 June 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)
These are my sunglasses: http://www.raybanaviatorsunglasses.com/images/Rayban/Optical/images/RB5063.jpg
They are prescription as I am blind. I must wear sunglasses outside b/c the sun and I are enemies.
― Ms Misery, Friday, 8 June 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)
I rilly like the Nic Cage Wild At Heart metal-type wayfarers
http://www.exclaim.ca/images/wild_at_heart.jpg
But I fear they'd be v hard for me to get away with. 8/
― W4LTER, Monday, 3 September 2007 00:39 (eighteen years ago)
I still cannot find any that are not a vise grip on my skull. No one will let me wear theirs for fear of ruination.
Ally I admit to stealing your look stolen from Unabomber but I just look like a prank Precious Moments parody. No worries?
― Abbott, Monday, 3 September 2007 00:48 (eighteen years ago)
yeah i kind of broke my gf's sunglasses the other trying to put them on my fat head.
― W4LTER, Monday, 3 September 2007 00:51 (eighteen years ago)
other day
Is some hipsterish (or even Hot Topicish) store selling the plastic framed wide sunglasses that have the little mirrored coating on the sides so you can see behind you? I had a pair when I was a kid that I got from sending in Rice Krispies box tops or something, but I think I saw half a dozen people with these this summer at concerts.
― mh, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 19:52 (eighteen years ago)
in the last two months, my sunglasses have survived being left in a trash can during an impressive thunderstorm and being run over more than once by an NYC subway
― gabbneb, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 20:13 (eighteen years ago)
I don't own any sunglasses. Never really saw the need. My girlfriend wants a pair, but she claims that everything she tries on looks ridiculously huge and cartoonish. Notwithstanding the fact that her head is indeed rather small, I think that's sort of the style?
― jaymc, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 20:18 (eighteen years ago)
They might have 'em at a Halloween store or novelty joke store, mh. I don't know if there's a heavy influx of Halloween stores in your town; three showed up in a 10-square-mile area here in the past week.
― Abbott, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 22:21 (eighteen years ago)
RIP, pair of aviators that i had for 12 years. :(
i replaced them with... a new pair of aviators!

my frames are the second pair, with lenses the color of the first pair, and they cost a boatload but are probably my favorite possession.
― remy bean, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 17:09 (seventeen years ago)
Rockin' the Wayfs this summer! Black frames, tempted to go with some clear ones, but that would be silly now.
― Bodrick III, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:07 (seventeen years ago)
Fuck Wayfarers especially in Zany® colours.
― Ed, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:13 (seventeen years ago)
I think girls can pull off the wacky colours. They're a design classic, I bet you won't see many people wearing snowboard-dude Oakleys in 30 years time.
― Bodrick III, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:48 (seventeen years ago)
You will see variations on all the generic Oakley designs, they just won't stand out because they're functional sunglasses more than fashionable.
That said, at the Coachella festival pretty much every other person was wearing some sort of wayfarer or wayfarer knockoff.
― mh, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)
i just want a basic pair of classic ferris bueller style raybans but all i see are these dickhead xtreme sports ones or stunna shades or some old aviator bullshit.... where do i get a cheap pair of black plastic sunglasses???
― and what, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 22:30 (seventeen years ago)
are those persols up there? i want a pair of the brown tortoise shell fold ups .... $$$
― jaime, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 22:40 (seventeen years ago)
and what, you go to Wal-Mart or Family Dollar or Walgreen's or something.
― Abbott, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 22:45 (seventeen years ago)
I've seen cheapo plain Rayban knockoffs in H&M and Topman for less than £10. This is in the UK, tho.
― Bodrick III, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 22:45 (seventeen years ago)
ya aw like any gas station is gonna have an assortment of cheap typical shades
― deeznuts, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 22:46 (seventeen years ago)
Lenses: polarized, or not? After some Oakleys but their current lens selections seem really dull; gold iridium might do but they're unpolarized.
― standing on the shoulders of pissants (ledge), Monday, 2 May 2011 21:52 (fifteen years ago)
My first pair of non-cheapo sunglasses:

they're actually tortoise shell but for some reason it doesn't come through in photos

Anyone have any experience with any of the following squarish-type aviators? I don't know if there are less expensive versions of these or whether any of them are suitable for prescription.
Ray-Ban CaravanAmerican Optical Original PilotRandolph Engineering AviatorRandolph Engineering Intrder
― LaMonte, Saturday, 30 July 2011 17:32 (fourteen years ago)
these are kind of sweet. If I were a rock star they'd be on my list.

If you keep your sunglasses on all day, when you take them off at sunset you get an extra hour of light
― calstars, Friday, 27 March 2020 23:12 (six years ago)
Should I pay $150 for some ray ban clubmasters or be be content with these cheap knockoffs?
― calstars, Sunday, 12 July 2020 22:24 (five years ago)
I lost the only pair of real Ray Bans I ever bought within a month. I’ve had several pairs of $10 sunglasses for 20 years.
― Album Moods: Rambunctious; Snide (Dan Peterson), Sunday, 12 July 2020 22:39 (five years ago)
you should rock the cheap pair. spend the money on something important, like beer or records
― budo jeru, Sunday, 12 July 2020 22:45 (five years ago)
I’ve also lost a pair of RBs that I had for like ten years, some aviators, in Central Park. Fuck
― calstars, Sunday, 12 July 2020 22:55 (five years ago)
i always lost cheap sunglasses. when i finally bought expensive ones it made me care about them enough that i never lost them. this strategy may not work for everyone.
― call all destroyer, Monday, 13 July 2020 02:27 (five years ago)
cheap sunglasses are not protective, better to squint
― Dan S, Monday, 13 July 2020 03:04 (five years ago)

― calstars, Saturday, 24 September 2022 17:41 (three years ago)
I have a pair of black Wayfairer Original Classics that I've had for 11 years. They are now several prescriptions old and don't have progressive lenses that I now need so I mostly wear them to play ultimate. Thinking of getting something new, but not sure what.
― i need to put some clouds behind the reaper (PBKR), Sunday, 25 September 2022 13:10 (three years ago)
My wife's theory is that the more you pay for your sunglasses, the less likely you are to lose them, but I suspect that shifts on a case by case basis. I do know that I love my Ray-Bans, which may be only the third pair of sunglasses I've ever owned. Because I did lose the previous ones (in very exotic locales!).
Though did I lose them? I know exactly where they are/were, they were just irretrievable, so I suppose not so much lost as lost, as in, "lost to the sea." I have a friend who used to own the exact same style of glasses as me who dropped them in a music festival porta-potty. He said for a split second he debated fishing them out somehow. That's the downside of paying more for glasses.
― Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 25 September 2022 14:14 (three years ago)
Has it been discussed here yet that, when ostentatiously checking out somebody who has just entered the room, whether it is cooler to lift one's sunglasses up, or down?
― henry s, Sunday, 25 September 2022 15:38 (three years ago)
A sunny day almost spring and everyone is wearing sunglassesDoes everyone have them like perched somewhere by their front door for easy access for today? Maybe I’m not in the routine or something
