funny story about the record show on sunday...

maria and i set up at this show outside of boston and i had fun hanging with the septaugenarian boston record crowd and listen to a story or ten about the one that got away and all that. one guy there used to have a shop in beantown and he sells in bulk mostly nowadays and i got some cheap proggy stuff from him and he had about 8 boxes of old store overstock/dollar bin prog and unplayed r&b/doo wop comps. and he REALLY wanted to leave the show. and he kept trying to get someone to buy his records so that he could go. so finally i agree to buy them. the price was right. and he left! and maria was at our table and for a brief funny time i just stood in the back at this other table and sold his records. though they were my records now. he had been selling everything 4 bucks apiece. as soon as he left someone came up and said how much are the records? i said: everything is 5 bucks! haha. and then i laughed just like that. it was funny. and i feverishly pulled everything that was actually a 10 or 20 dollar record.

the 4 or 5 boxes of comps made it worthwhile for me. though having more vangelis and tangerine dream and focus records in the store is always good. all those atlantic and okeh r&b comps and tiny label doo-wop comps, but also pristine unplayed 60's comps on motown, jamie, stax, vee jay, etc. so beautiful and they sound amazing. they look brand new.

i kept hearing people whispering..."that guy bought them all"...

added a little excitement to the day. nobody else would pull the trigger. i didn't pay a ton for them. he REALLY wanted to leave. looking around at everybody it occurred to me that i was the only person selling there who actually had a store.

and i finally got a copy of the first Birtha album! sheesh been wanting a nice copy of that forever. and its kind of a weird thing to want for so long seeing as how you can get a copy on ebay for like 6 bucks but what the hell i like buying records in real life. everyone on earth needs that album.
