Places to look for records

I didn't find a thread on this and figured I'd start one. This weekend I'll be driving through Memphis, anyone know of good record stores there?

goner and shangri-la are pretty well-known stores (especially for rock, but they have pretty good sections overall), but man -- memphis has just a TON of records around, so i wouldnt skip over thrifts and junk shops...

I usually find better records at antique stores and flea markets than record stores. I'm very excited about digging in Memphis.

Any record stores in the California high desert?

Don't sleep on those Memphis record stores, though, two of my favorites.
Shangri La is worth a dig, you can find some deals in their huge selection.

Sadly, we planned poorly and arrived in Memphis around 6:30. By the time we found Shangri La it was seven and they were closed. We found a few more record stores and they were closed too. I figured most records stores would close at 8 or 9. Big disappointment. Maybe next time.

I'll be in Baltimore next week for a month and a half, any good records stores in Maryland. Philly is near right?

in baltimore, check out TRUE VINE and OWN GURU. in college park, hit CDepot, and tell them i say hi. in frederick (and college park still?), check out cd/game exchange, and DONT FORGET TO CHECK THE CHEAP BIN CAUSE THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEYRE DOING. in silver spring, JOES RECORD PARADISE (and maybe another cd/game exchange). in DC, SOM (tell neal hi) and red onion (tell josh hi) and smash! (tell matt hi) and crooked beat (tell bill hi). the arbutus record fair is the third sunday of every month, and you will find insane shit there if you go early.

also, the mid-atlantic is really good for boogie/disco/modern-soul in the thrift/fleas, so dont neglect them.

going to the salvation army nearby in honor of this thread. do not expect to find any records (largely beat up nineties hip hop and dance music usually.) but maybe some books or a sweater.

books were disappointing. usually i can get some at least marginally decent sci-fi, but this time all i got was a small hungarian cook book.
