Record scans with a printer?

My printer isn't as large as my records. I've tried to scan every side of the record and then use this stitch program to join the photo together, but it only works half the time. And still some part of the record is left out. Does anyone have any solution or a better program for stitching photos together? I wish it were the future and those neat hand held scanners could take the record in one bean of light and presto!
