Until now. Because “The Forever Family”, a rock band with two reality TV shows starring Shirley Jones in development from Las Vegas Nevada, needs to raise $1,000,000 to purchase a very special very destroyed and very infamous house to renovate and shoot another pilot, they are offering their greatest and most prized possession up for auction: Their priceless set of Screen Gem Records.

These records have not been cleaned. They are being sold as is. We are new to the record business. We are the largest seller of Vintage Lunchboxes in the World.

i watched Thurston Moore pick off a thumbnail at a show yesterday and saw where it landed. All I could think of was how I could probably get like $60 for it on eBay if I was a total fucking scumbag

you might also be asked to prove that it came from a famous indie rocker as opposed to, you know, yourself?

whatever, it's probably still on the ground at Union Pool if you have a plan for it

oh man. up to $76 with four bids on day one. hot damn.
I will stop live blogging my auction now ;)
― dmr, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:02 (fourteen years ago)
Nah man, good luck, live blog away. Scott basically paid off my overdraft earlier this year by telling me how much something was worth. Go for it, I would again
― The Eyeball Of Hull (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 23:15 (fourteen years ago)
it's up to $200 now with 34 watchers. ends Tuesday night. fingers crossed.
even if it stayed at this price it's already by far the most expensive record I've sold on ebay. think I unloaded some of those Bob Pollard side project Fading Captain records for around $80 a couple years ago. I don't really sell that much. Really lucked into this one as I like the record but am totally fine w/ just having a digital copy and found out what it's worth at a great time (I didn't realize until after I put up the auction that they just put up a 45-minute documentary (!) about Lonesome Crowded West on Pitchfork on Monday ... I bet that sent some people to ebay I would think).
now I'm just hoping whoever wins isn't a flake.
― dmr, Friday, 22 June 2012 01:30 (thirteen years ago)
good luck Dave!

I was happy somebody local bought that record so I could just drop it off and avoid having to deal with shipping, worrying about it getting lost, etc.
However I didn't factor in that I then risked a Comic Book Guy type of person inspecting the record on the spot and critiquing my grading to my face.
Was a bit nerve-racking but after he declared it "a little dustier than I'd like ... not exactly mint" (I didn't grade it mint) we parted ways on good terms. Adios good sir.
― dmr, Friday, 6 July 2012 18:10 (thirteen years ago)
lol, yeah, people are weird man... glad things worked out okay. it's weird, ppl who are into spending hundreds on records but not understanding grading etc.
― one dis leads to another (ian), Friday, 6 July 2012 18:11 (thirteen years ago)
I am not super confident in my grading tbh
― dmr, Friday, 6 July 2012 18:16 (thirteen years ago)
think I described this record fine though
― dmr, Friday, 6 July 2012 18:17 (thirteen years ago)
i have a couple of good classical records ending today that are going up nicely. very curious what they will end up at. then i panic about my grading. i never put near mint on anything. that helps. unless it was sealed and i opened it. with rock stuff i will do near mint occasionally.
― scott seward, Friday, 6 July 2012 18:19 (thirteen years ago)
yeah I did put NM on this and probably maybe should have put VG+ which is what I usually put on almost everything
but it's about as clean a record as I'm gonna ever have up on ebay
― dmr, Friday, 6 July 2012 18:42 (thirteen years ago)
fuck it dude, NM isnt M

kicking myself yet again for not buying all of those from RRR back in the 90's when he was selling them for dirt cheap.
― sleeve, Saturday, 7 July 2012 00:16 (thirteen years ago)
eBay has been good to me lately, picked up a Steve Roden 10" that I haven't ever seen for sale anywhere, it was $10. currently bidding on the only Thinking Fellers vinyl I don't have (Wormed By Leonard, I have the cassette tho). the recession has really improved (i.e. lowered) the prices on a lot of stuff I collect.
― sleeve, Saturday, 7 July 2012 00:19 (thirteen years ago)
big fat meh re: ebay. so so so sick of badly-graded records. much higher success rate w/ Discogs.
― nerve_pylon, Saturday, 7 July 2012 00:38 (thirteen years ago)
i highly recommend green river records & venerable music as alternatives to ebay for the purchase of 78rpm records
― one dis leads to another (ian), Saturday, 7 July 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)
aren't you the only person who buys 78s online here?
though good information for future generations and random goggle jockeys.
― scott seward, Sunday, 8 July 2012 02:27 (thirteen years ago)
i was happy to sell russian records to my friend yuri instead of trying to sell them online. not 78s though. though i have sold him 78s. if academy ever gets any russian 78s email him. he's always looking.

― scott seward, Sunday, 8 July 2012 02:29 (thirteen years ago)
he even bought some of my folk 78s cuz they were on labels owned by russian immigrants.
nobody wants my country dance/folk dance 78s. :(
they're in such nice shape. nice henry ford label records. all kinds. new england square dance records. contra dance records. i have so many of them. thought some of the folk dance people around here would dig them, but nope.
― scott seward, Sunday, 8 July 2012 02:31 (thirteen years ago)
should have put the henry ford ones online a year ago. i sell them for three dollars in my store. they are never on ebay. ever. his own custom label folk dance orchestra stuff. i try to give the locals a chance...
think i sold a couple of them...
― scott seward, Sunday, 8 July 2012 02:48 (thirteen years ago)
even i can't hang with square dance music :( the occasional fiddle tune with calls is okay but legit square dance music... tough listen for me.

― scott seward, Saturday, 14 July 2012 00:07 (thirteen years ago)

― one dis leads to another (ian), Saturday, 14 July 2012 03:43 (thirteen years ago)

if you google it the only info of note is an ILX post from me being like "this record is okay, it's not that great."
is there any actual "psych" to be heard on it?
