Saw The Strapping Fieldhands play at Cake Shop a year ago or something and I think me and my girlfriend were the only ones who showed up that weren't opening for them. Or at least it was practically that way.

"Hi I got the lp and the record itself have alot of spots on it, on both sides. Im gonna have it cleaned and see if they come out. "

i wonder abt stuff like this. people not using precise words so that i have NO IDEA what this guy means by 'spots.' iirc the record was NM. i think maybe he means dust particles??

have you thought about trying to post it to a GBV fan forum or something? like is this thing still active? http://www.gbv.com/postal.html

or maybe the Matador msgboard

STUNNING MASTER TAPE SOUND ON SIDE ONE! And side two, at A+ to A++, is excellent in its own right. This is an incredible recording, a member of our Top 100, but it takes a copy like this to make it come to life.

I confess to not ever having taken this album seriously, dismissing it as a commercial collection of pop hits with as much depth as the L.A. river, but I was wrong wrong WRONG. This is a great album on the right LP, not the compressed piece of grainy cardboard pop we're used to. The typical pressing barely hints at the tremendous energy and top-quality musicianship that characterizes practically every track on this wonderful record.

Ouch! I have no idea what that is but judging by the description, I'd buy one for $6.16...

Mark G, Friday, 25 May 2012 08:34 (fourteen years ago)

It's a beautiful set. 2XLP and a really wonderful coffee style photo book.

an essay by nick hornby can kill the value of anything.

scott seward, Friday, 25 May 2012 16:32 (fourteen years ago)

Until now. Because “The Forever Family”, a rock band with two reality TV shows starring Shirley Jones in development from Las Vegas Nevada, needs to raise $1,000,000 to purchase a very special very destroyed and very infamous house to renovate and shoot another pilot, they are offering their greatest and most prized possession up for auction: Their priceless set of Screen Gem Records.

scott seward, Saturday, 26 May 2012 22:53 (fourteen years ago)

molly olsen (electricsound), Sunday, 3 June 2012 23:44 (fourteen years ago)

These records have not been cleaned. They are being sold as is.

We are new to the record business. We are the largest seller of Vintage Lunchboxes in the World.

i watched Thurston Moore pick off a thumbnail at a show yesterday and saw where it landed. All I could think of was how I could probably get like $60 for it on eBay if I was a total fucking scumbag

la musica de harry frogbs (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 10 June 2012 18:54 (fourteen years ago)

you might also be asked to prove that it came from a famous indie rocker as opposed to, you know, yourself?

one dis leads to another (ian), Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:18 (fourteen years ago)

whatever, it's probably still on the ground at Union Pool if you have a plan for it

la musica de harry frogbs (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:19 (fourteen years ago)

was just on the Modest Mouse thread (not sure why) and saw that "Lonesome Crowded West" vinyl goes for $350?? never been reissued (although one may be in the works). gonna have to sell that bad boy

dmr, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 16:42 (fourteen years ago)

one dis leads to another (ian), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 16:59 (fourteen years ago)

dmr, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 04:00 (fourteen years ago)

oh man. up to $76 with four bids on day one. hot damn.

I will stop live blogging my auction now ;)

dmr, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:02 (fourteen years ago)

Nah man, good luck, live blog away. Scott basically paid off my overdraft earlier this year by telling me how much something was worth. Go for it, I would again

The Eyeball Of Hull (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 23:15 (fourteen years ago)

it's up to $200 now with 34 watchers. ends Tuesday night. fingers crossed.

even if it stayed at this price it's already by far the most expensive record I've sold on ebay. think I unloaded some of those Bob Pollard side project Fading Captain records for around $80 a couple years ago. I don't really sell that much. Really lucked into this one as I like the record but am totally fine w/ just having a digital copy and found out what it's worth at a great time (I didn't realize until after I put up the auction that they just put up a 45-minute documentary (!) about Lonesome Crowded West on Pitchfork on Monday ... I bet that sent some people to ebay I would think).

now I'm just hoping whoever wins isn't a flake.

dmr, Friday, 22 June 2012 01:30 (thirteen years ago)

good luck Dave!

I was happy somebody local bought that record so I could just drop it off and avoid having to deal with shipping, worrying about it getting lost, etc.

However I didn't factor in that I then risked a Comic Book Guy type of person inspecting the record on the spot and critiquing my grading to my face.

Was a bit nerve-racking but after he declared it "a little dustier than I'd like ... not exactly mint" (I didn't grade it mint) we parted ways on good terms. Adios good sir.

dmr, Friday, 6 July 2012 18:10 (thirteen years ago)

lol, yeah, people are weird man... glad things worked out okay. it's weird, ppl who are into spending hundreds on records but not understanding grading etc.

one dis leads to another (ian), Friday, 6 July 2012 18:11 (thirteen years ago)

I am not super confident in my grading tbh

dmr, Friday, 6 July 2012 18:16 (thirteen years ago)

think I described this record fine though

dmr, Friday, 6 July 2012 18:17 (thirteen years ago)

i have a couple of good classical records ending today that are going up nicely. very curious what they will end up at. then i panic about my grading. i never put near mint on anything. that helps. unless it was sealed and i opened it. with rock stuff i will do near mint occasionally.
