today is my day off.. totally spoiled by chilling in and listening to records, with brief forays to the diner & grocery store.

one dis leads to another (ian), Monday, 19 September 2011 23:22 (fourteen years ago)

I got home from work and was greeted by a postcard from a friend in Johnson City, TN.
I rolled one up for the mystery tour and placed The Moles "Untune the Sky" (which was a gift record!) on the table (side B, I think).
Sat down and wrote a letter to my friend, walked to the post office and mailed it.
Simple pleasures are the best.

never used to like this record, but combined with sunny day and open 6th floor window breeze and light street noise and a quiet day in the office, its pretty much the best

Hey my cover of Mordicai Jones is different, it has blue trim around a guy playing a mandolin? with Wray's 3 shack track painted on a wall behind him.

Heard this on a cassette on a road trip for the first time and it's been a sentimental favorite ever since.

SO GOOD

sleeve, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 05:41 (fourteen years ago)

was surprised on first listen to just how funky the title track on the riley/cale collaboration is. also: who's the percussionist on that record? not credited on my copy.

played today:

steely dan - gaucho
neil young - on the beach
gene clark - roadmaster, two sides to every story
emmylou harris - luxury liner, pieces of the sky
gram parsons/flying burrito bros - sleepless nights

never given clark's two sides... as many plays as his earlier records, but there's some really beautiful understated music on here, and emmylou of course.

thanks--i was wondering the same thing!

nerve_pylon, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 13:59 (fourteen years ago)

No problem.
By the way, I've always liked the german version of "The Rhythm of The Heat" off the Deutsches version of "4" more than the original. Maybe because german is more of a rhythmic language and english more melodic...
