Shoot thanks for reminding me about Local Flavor. Gonna do a special "sounds of modern psychedelia" 4/20 edition of the show and Blues Control DEF needs to be involved.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 18:24 (fifteen years ago)

i put my blues control shirt on today, and thought "oh yeah lets do this"

One more tonight, ripping some old vinyl, now that I've learned the "noise reduction" feature.

what an incredible rock album. why did I ignore it for so long? I've owned the first three (including the sort of useless Live in Japan thing) for 15+ years at least, yet I never explored the catalog after that. Scared of Schenker maybe? possibly, I loved the loose ragged jams on the s/t and 'Flying' (and went as far as to acquire O.G. Decca copies of each), and maybe thought they sucked after changing guitarists to a member of the Schenker family

but fuck, this album rules. Leadoff track "Too Young to Know" is basically a Velvet Underground rip

Of course, I knew "Doctor Doctor" (Iron Maiden starting all their concerts with it...), but the rest is even better. Rock Bottom!

Need to keep buying the albs in chronological order until they really really do suck

Stormy Davis, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 04:36 (fifteen years ago)

I'm exactly the same re: UFO...

Love the first two.. Bought an OG of Flying a couple of weeks back, but avoided everything else... Will definitely pick up that one (that's the next one isn't it?) next time i see a copy..

Chips Moman must have done a special bulk rate on these kind of 'XXX XXX in Memphis' type of LP for major labels. Second one I've bought in a week (Paul Revere and the Raiders - really Mark Lindsay + American Rhythm section- was the other) and there loads more, I'm sure.

my daughter's listening to this downstairs - all the Peter Pan kiddie records are junk but this is the worst - the most annoying voice actors that only vaguely resemble the characters, badly recorded, dumb yet 0_0 stories, even a wrong theme song. Popeye has the like dirtiest skid row gravel voice, esp as he's calling for his pet squid 'Pussy' right now omgrofl

inspired by silent observation of the ongoing grateful dead thread, spent the night listening to:

robert hunter - tales of the great rum runners
old & in the way
bob weir - ace (picked this up maybe ten years ago, first time i've actually played it: liked looks like rain for the pedal steel/string combination, but other than that... too much weir)
mickey hart - rolling thunder
lagin/lesh - seastones
first solo garcia record
robert hunter - tiger rose (the eighties remixed version with the rerecorded vocals; still looking for a copy of the original mix)

might even listen to some actual dead stuff tomorrow.
