scott seward, Thursday, 18 November 2010 19:40 (fifteen years ago)

nah, that record's not that great. someone was asking about it in here the other day. strange, since the last copy we had was probably 6 months ago.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Thursday, 18 November 2010 19:44 (fifteen years ago)

what'd you sell it for? 20? something like that. nice copy.

scott seward, Thursday, 18 November 2010 19:46 (fifteen years ago)

i'm already thinking of stuff i want to bring to the umass record show in december. i'm definitely gonna go through MY stacks for unplayed weird stuff. need to lighten my load. thorinshield total record show bait. looks cool but buyer beware.

scott seward, Thursday, 18 November 2010 19:48 (fifteen years ago)

think we got $25 for it? it was on the wall.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Thursday, 18 November 2010 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

record prices in new york are kind of dumb sometimes though, i admit this, even as i am guilty of encouraging it.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Thursday, 18 November 2010 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

now playing, private country-rock LP called GOLD RUSH JUNCTION vol. 1. All originals. Good!

not everything is a campfire (ian), Thursday, 18 November 2010 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

yeah but new york has the insane rents. its understandable.

scott seward, Thursday, 18 November 2010 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

yeesh. just tried to listen to a utah phillips record. couldn't do it. put on pee wee crayton's things i used to do on vanguard. that hits the spot.

scott seward, Thursday, 18 November 2010 20:59 (fifteen years ago)

Ha, I just bought a copy of that Thorinshield record a week & a half ago. Always wondered about it, beautiful cover sure, but always heard that it was pretty weak. But the record store next to my house got in a more or less mint copy that they were selling for $8. couldn't really pass it up for that -- I still haven't listened yet, but if I don't like it, I figure I can always flip it. that store has weird pricing though. I also bought Smiths 'Hatful of Hollow' US pressing for $10, which is probably a little high, but I was drunk and felt like buying records

Stormy Davis, Thursday, 18 November 2010 22:28 (fifteen years ago)

this is also the place that I cleaned out of super mint copies of a bunch of early Captain Beefheart and Canned Heat LPs for like $10-15 each. but then they also have like a VG+ copy of the 1st Procol Harum for $20 (which has been sitting there forever)

Stormy Davis, Thursday, 18 November 2010 22:31 (fifteen years ago)

hatful rules. i'm listening to electric ladyland right now. before that, jon hendricks solo.

nice. how much did that run u? at one point the s/t was the most i'd spent on a record (like 45).

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41itxRAHM9L._SL600_.jpg

pete, i think u need to hear this. it's sorta like if julien priester's 'love love' is to mwandishi, this is to bitches brew or something. a lil funkier, a lil weirder. second side is modern classical music.

jaxon, Friday, 19 November 2010 18:36 (fifteen years ago)

deceit cost me 2/3 of what s/t cost me. both were well under $100, but both were more than $45. i believe you have all the answers you need! same buddy of mine who had the s/t (eth@n cl@uset, proprietor of carrboro, NC's fucking AWESOME all-day records) bought a gigantic collection on wednesday, and fished out deceit for me :)

btw if yr travelin through, pretzel walrus's new band BRAINBOWS are playing at all-day records today at 6pm eastern!

Shooot. You're too kind.
Gonna spend the next week in Memphis, will probably come away with a haul.
Unfortunately I have to focus on the unpleasant business of a brotherly intervention.
Happy thanksgiving.

The Rubinoos - Party of Two. 1983 five-song major label EP, produced by Todd Rundgren. Sounds nothing like the '70s Rubinoos records on Beserkley. Great songs and pretty viable '80s new wave sound on some of this (like the single "If I Had You Back"), though the songwriting is still sounding pretty '70s on side two.

timellison, Monday, 22 November 2010 00:43 (fifteen years ago)

such a great soundtrack.

This is pretty good, I'm often a bit wary of buying these kind of reissues of KBD bands that only put out one single, so many of them are just both sides of the single plus a badly recorded live set, e.g. the Village Pistols one - the Big Money 7" plus a load of shitty live Motorhead covers, I mean really why not just repress the 7". I might've bought that, cos the copy of Killed By Death #7 I've got is a lousy pressing, it sounds terrible compared to all the other KBD's I've got.
