i cant believe it was my first time seeing them!

haha wow. I think it was my 12th or something. I saw em a lot in the 90s. It was a fun show and worth it to see em play a 1996-era setlist with a buncha songs from Propeller, Grand Hour, Bee Thousand and Alien Lanes but man they were waaaaaaaasted. I know theyre always like that, maybe it was that I was a lil less drunk than usual at a gbv show (maybe a lot less) but at certain points I was like damn guys. In the last song of the main set Bob sang the first verse of Smothered in Hugs, then the second verse, then the first verse again before going to the chorus (while Tobin and Demos looked at each other like "wtf"). Mitch Mitchell stood half the show smoking cigs and throwin up rock n roll devil horns instead of playing guitar lol. But still, any show that ends with "Weed King" I mean c'mon it's gonna be a good time.

Well, if there is a Thank You to Tripmaker on the record, then yeah, it's me.
I don't even have a copy of that one. I think it's probably their best. The dude I know best (ex-roommate) from that band was kicked out of it, though.
I'm still friends with the rest of the guys, but the situation is kind of sucky and awkward. The good thing is that the dude who was kicked out has gone on to make some really great new music (new thing is called Roxy Beach). Excited to see what may happen with it. Meanwhile, the direction that Mah Jongg is going kind of leaves me cold.

Saw them play the material from Machinegong sooo many times.

Just got this today out of the used section of the crappy chain store in town. Listening for the very first time right now.
Never heard this We the People track (When I Arrive) and of COURSE it delivers. Looking forward to the Sunday Funnies "A Pindaric Ode."

Forgot how much I love this record. Just got a super clean copy. Nice tight spindle hole, probably only played a few times. Maybe my fave Poco.

i really kinda don't like the rascals. is that mean? i've tried harder than most people to like them too. i've heard freedom suite and see and once upon a dream and all of it mostly and i never want to hear it again. i don't even like brigati stuff. and its hard to make an album like that brigati album and have me not like it. its got all the elements that i love. i don't even like "groovin" that much! felix cavaliere was a good producer though. should i start talking shit about the lovin' spoonful now?

scott seward, Thursday, 11 November 2010 02:41 (fifteen years ago)

i like peaceful world!

69, Thursday, 11 November 2010 02:46 (fifteen years ago)

i would always play a rascals album i'd never heard and think that this was gonna be the one i liked. i'm an optimist! but it never happened. some of their stuff makes the fatal mistake of being corny AND dreary. that's deadly.
