money's been super tight lately and now i'm trying to save $$ for a new guitar amp but anyway these, after way too much deliberation and penny counting and putting things back on the shelf, are my recent grabs from the fetus:

the del fuegos: boston, mass.
eugene chadbourne: country protest
michael nesmith: live at the palais
esther philips: confessin the blues
portal: swarth

probably the last for a while :(

she's one intense bitch, she rides a unicycle (arby's), Wednesday, 22 September 2010 11:28 (fifteen years ago)

today:

"I'd buy that for a dollar!" Great purchases for a buck or less

xhuxk, Sunday, 26 September 2010 02:53 (fifteen years ago)

the weeds - aka the lollipop shoppe (basically the lollipop shoppe LP with a few bonus tracks. okay sound!)
roger morris - first album (UK band-style rural rock)
'kid punch' miller - jazz rarities 1929-1930
neil young - broken arrow
'truckin' (wheaton college girl chorus/rock band hybrid)

not everything is a campfire (ian), Sunday, 26 September 2010 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

i had that lollipop shop/weeds cd reissue, need to give it more listens but my cds have been out of commission for over a year.

today

wes montgomery - a day in the life
vern gosdin - till the end
charles mingus - let my children hear music
elliott murphy - aquashow
lynyrd skynyrd - pronounced...
and re-bought stones - sticky fingers (some pressing with a gold stamped zipper, we'll see how it sounds)

Cloudland Canyon - Fin Eaves
Mythical Beast - Scales

van smack, Monday, 27 September 2010 01:58 (fifteen years ago)

NYC Peech Boys - Life Is Something Special (vinyl is in good condition, sleeve is beat to shit but I got it for like $8 so I'll deal)
Sister Sledge - Love Somebody Today
Outer Space - s/t (side project of the synthesizer dude from Emeralds)
Outer Space/Raglani - split 12"
Best Coast - Crazy For You (I had preordered this in order to get the seafoam green vinyl but my copy got lost in the mail so they re-sent me one of the normal black vinyl ones. kind of a bummer but at least the dude at Kemado was super nice about it.)
Magic Kids - Memphis
Tame Impala - Innerspeaker
Tangerine Dream - Force Majure
Antony/Fennesz - "Returnal" 7"
TV on the Radio - Young Liars EP (for $12!)
Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell
Hall & Oates - War Babies (clearly I was on a Rundgren-as-producer kick)

more importantly I also got an Outlaw Audio RR2150 and a pair of those Insignia speakers which everyone raves over despite coming from Best Buy's in-house brand. set everything up last night & threw on Willie Nelson's Phases & Stages and holy shit, I'm about to learn to love music all over again

Ride decided to give birth to a giant poop log & disguise it as a CD (jamescobo), Thursday, 30 September 2010 00:25 (fifteen years ago)

did a favor for a friend, got a little dough, spent the dough on LPs:

bud powell - the amazing... vol. 2
grace slick & the great society - conspicuous only in its absence
bob weir - ace
v/a - sound of kinshasa: guitar classics from zaire
v/a - shadow music of thailand
lindstrom - breakfast in heaven/blast of loser

freebies:
eagles s/t
john martyn - one world ('77; lately a friend has been really pushing the 'later' uk folk guys solo records; thompson, chapman, martyn. this one seems kinda crapola but i should listen to the whole thing. only gave it a few cuts before)
2 live crew - pop that pussy 12"

not everything is a campfire (ian), Thursday, 30 September 2010 00:32 (fifteen years ago)

Karheinz Stockhausen - Momente (Nonesuch)

corey, Thursday, 30 September 2010 01:13 (fifteen years ago)

ian. 2 things. that martyn record is great. i've mentioned it a billion times before, but 'big muff' is cowritten by lee perry. i really dig later martyn.

secondly. not that you're not allowed to like lindstrom, but you should really start getting into all the stuff he's into. moroder, k.schulze, cerrone, the band space, IC records, italo in general. i think you might dig.

jaxon, Thursday, 30 September 2010 05:14 (fifteen years ago)

i like cerrone & schulze okay; i'm working my way into it slowly.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Thursday, 30 September 2010 15:11 (fifteen years ago)

i get kinda turned off by cheezy vocals tho. that is my main stumbling block.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Thursday, 30 September 2010 15:12 (fifteen years ago)

but i do try. i listen to cheap disco records with space-themed covers regularly. it's good to drive ppl out of the store late at night when i am drinking beer.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Thursday, 30 September 2010 15:13 (fifteen years ago)

that would drive me *into* the store tbh

dmr, Thursday, 30 September 2010 15:34 (fifteen years ago)

you like UNCLASSICS ian? that, mixed up in the hague, and the CBS top 100 radio shows that I-F did for a few years really turned me on to italo. i-robots is a good comp, too...

69, Thursday, 30 September 2010 17:25 (fifteen years ago)

i don't know any of that shit.
i'd ask u guys to post covers of stuff i'd like so i can remember it easier but being a mod sux

not everything is a campfire (ian), Thursday, 30 September 2010 17:35 (fifteen years ago)

UNCLASSICS is morgan geist's (from metro area) mixed comp
mixed up in the hague (vols 1&2) is I-F's mixed comp, and sort of responsible for the wide exposure of italo i think
CBS top 100 is this internet radio station (cybernetic broadcast system) for which I-F did a yearly countdown of 100 italo classics
i-robots is another mixed comp with good stuff, i forgot who did this one

in my opinion, mixed up in the hague is better as a historical document than it is the best comp. i found unclassics and i-robots more user-friendly.

69, Thursday, 30 September 2010 17:51 (fifteen years ago)

the idea of becoming a big dance collector is so intimidating to me cause of all the plain sleeves

69, Thursday, 30 September 2010 17:52 (fifteen years ago)

straight up, i never listen to comps unless they are old-timey comps.
can ya'll recommend good spacey disco LPs? i'll take a dig through our soul/funk/disco section today. we always have tons of crap with mustaches and spaceships for $3-5.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Thursday, 30 September 2010 18:03 (fifteen years ago)

cerrone's supernature is great
moroder's from here to eternity

umm imma defer after those, but seriously, dont discount comps for italo. it's a singles form!

69, Thursday, 30 September 2010 18:16 (fifteen years ago)

jaxon, Thursday, 30 September 2010 18:24 (fifteen years ago)

that's just banging space disco. if you want, i can suggest a bunch of cosmic space albums that are less beat driven and just tripped out synth noodling too?

jaxon, Thursday, 30 September 2010 18:29 (fifteen years ago)

i would like that! (banging space disco sounds good too though, will check out)

Bill E, Thursday, 7 October 2010 21:10 (fifteen years ago)

The new Swans LP finally arrived today. It is great. My only (very minor) complaint is the flimsy and austere vinyl packaging. I somehow expected something more sturdy and slightly more lavish (if that's the right word). But who cares.

Duke, Saturday, 9 October 2010 23:30 (fifteen years ago)

^ that IFCO is fantastic. my Inerane side one is pressed off-center--yours ok? lends a slightly queasy take on the open-string drones!

also, ian: have you heard the Luxus dbl. 7" Academy has on eBay right now? always been curious about that, never seen one.
