I know. I know. We we there for a wedding with a big crew. I def thought about it. Deej and I texted a few times but never saw each other. it was just impossible with all the things to do and people to wrangle.

jaxon, Saturday, 4 September 2010 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 4 September 2010 23:11 (fifteen years ago)

timellison, Monday, 6 September 2010 03:09 (fifteen years ago)

in pasadena this weekend with BLAM and friends, hit amoeba in hollywood for a lil bit:
felt -- the splendor of fear
burton greene trio live in concert (ESP)
the cure -- seventeen seconds
guvner's earl grey tea 7" (first guv'ner record, a real bargain at $1.99!)
superchunk -- mower 7" ($2.99)
superchunk -- the question is how fast 7" ($1.99)
superchunk -- ribbon 7" ($1.99)
pavement -- father to a sister of thought 7" ($5.99, but oh well)

annie found the first emmylou harris LP, gliding bird, and a $1.99 copy of our favorite barbara manning 7", "b4 we go under" (written specially for barb by the bats dude, which all goes nicely with the upcoming clean/barbara manning show in SF in october!!)

might try and hit atomic in burbank (which i would certainly call BRBank if i lived in LA) before we fly home tomorrow...

69, Monday, 6 September 2010 06:08 (fifteen years ago)

finally found a clean copy of john & beverley martyn "stormbringer" the spine is almost totally wrecked but it was affordable and the vinyl is nice.

also recently I got a private press record by Kevin McGrath, "Hats off To Contradition." A folky thing but pretty oddball songs. lyrical concerns include tying your woman up with rope, going to a baseball game with jesus, reading ed mcbain novels, and dying alone.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Monday, 6 September 2010 22:24 (fifteen years ago)

man my local store had so much good stuff come in...

Zappa - Roxy & Elsewhere (maybe my favorite FZ)
Incredible String Band - 5000 Spirits
ditto - Wee Tam (both gold label Elektras)
Salt & Pepa - Spinderalla's Not A Fella/Shake Your Thang
ditto - Tramp/Push It

and oh man did that Japanese Polydor pressing of Eno's Another Green World look nice, no $ left though.

sleeve, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 00:33 (fifteen years ago)

spent some credit i'd built up--

jeremy doormouse s/t (void reissue)
joah gilberto s/t (brazilian polydor)
country joe & the fish - feel like i'm fixin' to die (with boardgame)
allman bros. - fillmore east (pink label capricorn, VG+)
the fall - hex enduction hour (earmark reissue w/ bonus LP)
black swan - echoes & rainbows (french one-man-band folk psych)
big borother & the holding company s/t (ugh, the stereo on this kinda sucks)
clean living - meadowmuffin
the captain matchbox whoopee band - smoke dreams (obscure late ESP)
etta james sings... (custom rekkerds.)

those last two were freebies from the 2/$5 bin. etta james has a few scuffs.

harbl essences (crüt), Monday, 13 September 2010 04:06 (fifteen years ago)

In Memphis (all from Shangri-La cuz Goner didn't ever open the day before labor day, the lazy punks)
Ty Segall - Melted
Girls of the Gravitron - s/t
The Breakaways - uh, what is this called? buncha demos. Felt stupid for buying it when I got it home but I listened and I like it.
ZZ Top - Deguello
Univers Zero 1313
Bruce Springsteen - Dancing in the Dark 12" (Blaster mix!!!)
Kraan - Andy Nogger (this record fucking rules!)
Bare Wires - Seeking Love
Matthew Melton - Still Misunderstood
Last two were free at a show. Sort of happened into Murphy's just to see who was around and ran into some good old friends.
Bare Wires were okay and they mentioned having a free record. So I asked after the set and dude gave me one. Mentioned that I have a radio show and he gave me his solo lp, too. Haven't listened to that yet, but the Bare Wires stuff is okay.
Kinda creeped out by the post-Jay Memphis/Goner scene, though. Gonerfest looks like it's going to be fucking amazing this year.
Wish I could go.

Trip Maker, Monday, 13 September 2010 23:10 (fifteen years ago)

traded some shit w jaxon:
country funk
robbie basho -- visions from the country
l.a. getaway

69, Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:06 (fifteen years ago)

gonerfest is a really really good time. the year i went was a strange time, with sic alps and vivian girls and tyvek there right next to the more dyed-in-the-wool garage dudes, which made for an occasionally segmented scene. but like, i liked both mini-scenes anyway. records were plentiful, and i really felt like i was drinking less than almost everyone else in attendance

69, Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:11 (fifteen years ago)

traded some shit w 69:
bobby brown - live
sff - ticket to everywhere (so much better than the other one of theirs i had. so wanky)
v/a - puget sound guitar workshop (this is really nice. reminds me of how my dad plays)
silvetti - world w/o words

jaxon, Tuesday, 14 September 2010 05:04 (fifteen years ago)

How is Soundsations? I always forget it's there.

also in LA is Soundsations half a mile from LAX. down the street from where i grew up, so i have spent many an hour in there. i still go every time i see my mom. there used to be KXLU djs that worked there. now it's the same 5 40+yr old baseball freaks in there since it opened 10yrs ago. they have seriously the worst taste in music. always playing dinosaur rock from the early 90s. luckily they don't know much about anything cool, so prices are pretty fair for the things i'm looking for. decent vinyl (and now they have a turntable set up so you can listen) and tons of used cds (specifically hip hop and alternarock. where they make most of their money i think)
