trying to decide which Ramsey Lewis alb to play next ... saw tbe 75-year-old hero tonight and he was completely phenomenal. skull-crushingly great piano trio ass-kickage, with the great Leon Joyce on drums/perc

Ramsey Lewis. 75 years old. everyone listen to their Ramsey albm this weekend in honor of the legend. ok, I personally plan to start w/ 'Wade in the Water' and just move forward from there. why not

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 4 September 2010 06:06 (fifteen years ago)

Tryin to figure out my feelings on this...

I bought the first Les alb for a buck back in July. Still haven't listened yet. Needed it for the Steve Miller Band connection tho.

now listening to this

super cool. who knew this thing even existed? and I thought I knew from psych recs. Drag City is probably my favorite record label of all-time. i don't care how hipster that sounds. I will take them over Blue Note or Folkways or whatever at this point

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 4 September 2010 21:06 (fifteen years ago)

holy fuck .. this Spur album is about as rad as rad gets. seriously.

recommended to all heads

album is nothing but a non-stop party

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 4 September 2010 22:10 (fifteen years ago)

Ah, didn't know about the Dudek/SMB connection, cool. Just picked this up at Permanent records in Chicago. Some jazzy -new age sensibilities it seems.

scott seward, Saturday, 4 September 2010 22:50 (fifteen years ago)

scott seward, Saturday, 4 September 2010 22:51 (fifteen years ago)

it's pretty good. nothing mind-blowing. nothing BEARDO, if you will

My Philosophy: Selected Works of L. Ron Hubbard Narrated by Yvonne Gilham (music by Buddy Prima.)

I think this is all moog but my ears aren't always great. Weird ambient spoken word $cientology stuff. kind of ridiculous but also very cool & weird. not-dissimilar to robert ashley's 'private parts.' the music is very mellow and new age-y. i like it. even if it is all evil. it's on 'axiom' records and comes in a very nice abstract lanscape gatefold in shades of orange.

The 101 North album is pretty zzzzzzz - but there's one Wally Badarou-ish track on it called 'Africa.'

Totally feeling this. A very funky take on jj Cale or Tony Joe white. Lazy, country blues rock.
