could never really dig grey life as much as i wanted to. it really is grey! i tried over the years too. would pull it out and play it and figured i would get in the mood someday. picked up this weird val stoecklein curio at my brother's place. environment concept album of hippy stuff. val does one of the most bonkers dylan rips i've ever heard. can't tell if he's serious or not. probably not.

Xp,

Without really meaning to, I've picked up nearly everything Stoecklein did this year: Grey Life, Ecology and the Truth of Truths thing - Grey Life only arrived yesterday - sort of reminds me of Bob Lind on first acquaintance - I expected white knuckle bleakness, and/or out there-ness in a Skip Spence/ Syd kind of way, but its lush, but more than a hint of things awry......

need to listen more.

im not JOE COLDWAVE here, but this is really good. contains the two songs from the 1983 "nightlife" single, in addition to seven unreleased tracks. it's all pretty solid -- great synth sounds and the vocals actually add something (the singer sounds like an oakey/bowie hybrid, and i want to emphasize that this REALLY WORKS in this case)!

also listening to early business and oppressed stuff on vinyl. love those guys. early business stuff from 80/81 is weird to hear! poppy. i like it though. also listening to AMAZING finnish punk comp on rock-a-rama. just killer stuff. friend of mine gave me a ton of punk to sell at store and on ebay. but of course i just want to keep half of it. but i can't! but i want to! some of his oi stuff goes for buxx. and some i have no time for even though i love oi. bad german stuff.

trying to decide which Ramsey Lewis alb to play next ... saw tbe 75-year-old hero tonight and he was completely phenomenal. skull-crushingly great piano trio ass-kickage, with the great Leon Joyce on drums/perc

Ramsey Lewis. 75 years old. everyone listen to their Ramsey albm this weekend in honor of the legend. ok, I personally plan to start w/ 'Wade in the Water' and just move forward from there. why not
