no shit, artful dodger. you are badass. you are really into the heavy freak scene. i can dig that.

scott seward, Sunday, 29 August 2010 01:29 (fifteen years ago)

would this be a good show to go to on a blind date y/n

Is it remotely possible that Shannara might have been good? (los blue jeans), Sunday, 29 August 2010 01:53 (fifteen years ago)

depends on how much of a hepcat your date is. are they down with the beardos? i think it might offer a little something for everybody.

scott seward, Sunday, 29 August 2010 01:58 (fifteen years ago)

so I bought this on vinyl when it first came out, but I sheepishly admit that I didn't even listen to my copy until tonight. It's fucking great. just "another Slayer album" in one sense, sure, but crap bands like Metallica can't even manage that. Saw Slayer last week and they were fantastic as usual, although Tom isn't allowed to headbang anymore -- doctor's orders. that visual aspect is missed.

They did two 'World Painted Blood' songs and I wish they would have done more -- "Americon" might the most brutal anti-George Bush song I've ever heard. Kerry King, I raise my beer in your direction

am listening to Steve Miller's 'Rock Love' album again. somebody help me. i think I need an intervention. If you by something like Allmusic.com, this album and the 'Journeys From Eden' one were the nadir of his career ... before he recovered from oblivion and came back with hits like "The Joker" and so forth. but man, 'Rock Love' .. second side is so amazing, best stoner song ever in "Harbor Lights" and then it ends with the jazzy 9 minute instrumental jam "Deliverance"

all that being backed-up by ex-Frumious Bandersnatch members Jack King and Ross Valery

I can't believe Capitol let him release this even, I can't believe they weren't like, "fuck it, Steve, we've given you seven albums and it just isn't happening bro ... nobody is going to buy this half-baked hippy jam shit in 1971. you're fired."

Stormy Davis, Monday, 30 August 2010 02:50 (fifteen years ago)

i really am going to seek this one out now. thanks stormy

about to put on mike nesmith - tantamount to treason

not everything is a campfire (ian), Monday, 30 August 2010 02:56 (fifteen years ago)

so obsessed with tantamount to treason a couple years ago. the first side. kept playing it over and over. that and no other. went to the other side there for awhile. still in awe of those guys.

scott seward, Monday, 30 August 2010 03:03 (fifteen years ago)

it's a WEIRD record!!! the first song is like, hard rock. and the rest of it is so spacey

not everything is a campfire (ian), Monday, 30 August 2010 03:13 (fifteen years ago)

actually ... funnily enough -- pace my Slayer comment above about buying the LP but never listening to it -- I bought a copy of 'Tantamount to Treason' about three weeks ago .. it was still in my "to listen to" pile. I am putting in now, for some mind-mild action w/ you guys!

Stormy Davis, Monday, 30 August 2010 03:19 (fifteen years ago)

"Autoclaving turns this line brown."

jesus what a nut

Stormy Davis, Monday, 30 August 2010 03:21 (fifteen years ago)

this is another guy where I'm amazed the record company stuck with him for so long .. sure had the monkees pedigree, but did anybody actually *buy* these Nesmith lps? RCA just let him go on and on and on .. god bless em

Stormy Davis, Monday, 30 August 2010 03:24 (fifteen years ago)

jesus, "You Are My One" --> "In the Afternoon" is some kind of spacey fucking greatness.

ok, sorry for the liveblogging ... this is just so much up my alley tho .. stoner madness

Stormy Davis, Monday, 30 August 2010 03:30 (fifteen years ago)

crazy ass echo slapback on Mike's vox on "In the Afternoon"

Stormy Davis, Monday, 30 August 2010 03:31 (fifteen years ago)

it's an amazing album. but that first side just kills me. i studied it as closely as i could. but i also just floated away with it.

scott seward, Monday, 30 August 2010 03:36 (fifteen years ago)

i do feel god when i hear stuff like that. or spirits. some kinda life force. it's inspirational.

scott seward, Monday, 30 August 2010 03:37 (fifteen years ago)

which is why when i would play that and no other over and over again - first side of no other too! - i felt as one with something. i don't know what. but they tapped into something pretty profound.

scott seward, Monday, 30 August 2010 03:38 (fifteen years ago)

totally fantastic

Stormy Davis, Monday, 30 August 2010 03:38 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, this album is great. i gotta spend more time with loose salute. i just picked that up a few weeks ago but have only listened to it a few times.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Monday, 30 August 2010 03:51 (fifteen years ago)

the 'Nevada' one is the one that is totally fucking amazing and spacey psych action ... i don't have a copy tho .. need one REALLY bad

Stormy Davis, Monday, 30 August 2010 04:02 (fifteen years ago)

Nevada Fighter! I love that one. I need: Magnetic South, Just Your Standard Ranch Stash, and the Hits Just Keep on Comin.

OH WOW GRANDFATHER CLOCK HAT (arby's), Monday, 30 August 2010 22:43 (fifteen years ago)

bought for novelty value, which it's living up to for a lot of it, but the opening song is actually this great lilting folk tune over a really beautiful/spooky/shimmering/swelling organ and i kinda love it.

OH WOW GRANDFATHER CLOCK HAT (arby's), Monday, 30 August 2010 22:45 (fifteen years ago)

track 2 shifts gears: "he's a scandanavian hot shot; hot shot from duluth!" <---the accent, oh my.

could never really dig grey life as much as i wanted to. it really is grey! i tried over the years too. would pull it out and play it and figured i would get in the mood someday. picked up this weird val stoecklein curio at my brother's place. environment concept album of hippy stuff. val does one of the most bonkers dylan rips i've ever heard. can't tell if he's serious or not. probably not.

Xp,

Without really meaning to, I've picked up nearly everything Stoecklein did this year: Grey Life, Ecology and the Truth of Truths thing - Grey Life only arrived yesterday - sort of reminds me of Bob Lind on first acquaintance - I expected white knuckle bleakness, and/or out there-ness in a Skip Spence/ Syd kind of way, but its lush, but more than a hint of things awry......

need to listen more.

sonofstan, Tuesday, 31 August 2010 19:46 (fifteen years ago)

scott seward, Tuesday, 31 August 2010 19:48 (fifteen years ago)
