coldcut - what's that noise

One of the 1st 5 tapes I ever bought! :)

a fucking stove just fell on my foot. (Colonel Poo), Sunday, 1 August 2010 14:48 (fifteen years ago)

you'll almost never find anything good for less than $4.99 at reckless, but you _will_ find shitloads of awesome stuff AT $4.99 or $5.99. i really like that place.

No, man that was under five bucks for all those records, total.. IN TOTO. So ya, the pricing at Reckless is frequently awesome.

jaxon, Monday, 2 August 2010 15:19 (fifteen years ago)

god i hate the eurthymics

by another name (amateurist), Monday, 2 August 2010 19:40 (fifteen years ago)

i mostly agree, but that album is more about CONNY PLANK producing CAN -- dave and annie hold up really well, but that wouldnt be enough to do it for me otherwise...

69, Monday, 2 August 2010 19:54 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah I haven't heard that album just a couple of tracks off it but it's a lot different to what they're known for. I mean I quite like Love is a stranger and Sweet Dreams but can't stand much else they did.

a fucking stove just fell on my foot. (Colonel Poo), Monday, 2 August 2010 21:50 (fifteen years ago)

i always liked in the garden. but i like them pretty much throughout the 80's. i like these albums too:

hi, too much shit acquired since march to even begin to remember but my favorite scores were 'crystal gazing luck amazing' by the compulsive gamblers in portland for $4 and shirley collins' 'adieu to old england' for $1 at a yard sale.

Kyze - Stomp: Move Jump Jack Your Body 12"
Modern Rocketry - s/t

jaxon, Saturday, 7 August 2010 01:49 (fifteen years ago)

how are you feeling the denny, man? i've had a mild interest & certainly an appreciation for exotica for a while, but it might be the season to really dig in... getting drunk on juice & vodka, baking in the sun.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Saturday, 7 August 2010 04:09 (fifteen years ago)

visited amoeba berkeley today...

v/a - martin (comp of martin hannett-produced tracks including joy division, buzzcocks, a certain ratio, omd, etc)

justus kohnke - don't go
lindstrom - feedelity remixed vol 1 (with mungolian jetset remix)
mark e - merc 001
midnight magic - beam me up
shit robot - i got a feeling

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Saturday, 7 August 2010 04:32 (fifteen years ago)

man, that denny album was amazing. i've got very little exotica, although i totally appreciate it. i was thinking to myself today that this too would be my season to dig in. and it was only a buck (pretty much everything i bought today besides the fred neil was a buck or less)

jaxon, Saturday, 7 August 2010 05:22 (fifteen years ago)

most exotica is super cheap ime. and super awesome

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Saturday, 7 August 2010 05:25 (fifteen years ago)

there's a ton of good martin denny records

dmr, Saturday, 7 August 2010 20:55 (fifteen years ago)

please don't start another lounge revolution. i'm still getting over the last one.

scott seward, Saturday, 7 August 2010 20:56 (fifteen years ago)

ben sidran - don't let go
cabaret voltaire - here to go 12"
tom tom club - man with the 4-way hips 12"
temptations - 1990

xpost - I never went much deeper than denny, les baxter and esquivel

dmr, Saturday, 7 August 2010 20:57 (fifteen years ago)

LOVE rock yer baby. LP or 12"? LP has at v least three ultimate bangers--the title track, you can have it all, and i get lifted. <3

not everything is a campfire (ian), Sunday, 8 August 2010 01:45 (fifteen years ago)

LP. Crappy sleeve but clean record. I Get Lifted is so classic, I've had MP3s of the album for a few months and been on the hunt for the vinyl

dmr, Sunday, 8 August 2010 02:43 (fifteen years ago)

I just traded in a copy of the George McCrae lp tonite at Reckless (had two copies.) My fave the LP (other than the title cut, which has long been like top 5 songs all-time for me) has always been "Make It Right". It has that same 'droney organ and simple-but-splendid chord changes' vibe as the title cut. sold about 10 other albums, got the following in trade:

Dif Juz - Out of the Trees
Bee Gees - Main Course
Otis Spann - Crying Time (on Vanguard w/ Barry Melton on gtr!!)
Stomu Yamash'ta - Go Live in Paris
Wham! - s/t (70s band on GRT ... "good" condition for a buck)
Gap Band III (50 cents)
Technotronic - Pump Up the Jam 12" (50 cents)
Heatwave - (50 cents)

other shit from last couple weeks-

Jim Shepard - V3 Next Album
Velvet Underground - Hilltop Pop Festival
Richard Youngs - Advent
Stevie Nicks - Bella Donna ($2)
Chris Hillman - Slippin Away ($1)
Sandy Nelson - Drumming Up a Storm ($1, "good" condition)
Santana - Festival ($2)
Stomu Yamash'ta - East Wind
Godley and Creme - L
Michael Hurley - Blue Hills
Ramsey Lewis - Upendo ni Pamoja
Come - Eleven:Eleven
Whodini - Escape
Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation - To Mum from Aynsley and the Boys
Meg Baird - Dear Companion
Les Dudek - s/t ($2)
The Bongos - Drums Along the Hudson ($2)

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 8 August 2010 04:20 (fifteen years ago)

what's Stomu Yamash'ta's Go like? i always see it and just assume it's gonna be a wanky fusion album. i've got Man From the East and a soundtrack he did for the movie Tempest. man from the east is pretty amazing. weird, funky, japanese krauty prog

http://therisingstorm.net/maxfield-parrish-its-a-cinch-to-give-legs-to-old-hard-boiled-eggs/

really interesting comments including input from band members & others who put the album together. interesting that chris darrow remixed the album for final release. would be interesting to hear the original mix, but that would mean finding the CD..

not everything is a campfire (ian), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:22 (fifteen years ago)

Taking a couple hundred CDs that I couldn't sell online to Amoeba and hoping to get some exchange for RECORDS. Excited to post my score here. Should I hunt for bargains or treat myself to fancy expensive Parson Sound, etc? I probably will get nothing for these shitty Cds

Tolaca Luke (admrl), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:24 (fifteen years ago)

hunt for bargains and also buy that PS box!

69, Monday, 9 August 2010 19:25 (fifteen years ago)

haha

Think Amoeba will have it? How much should I expect for like 300-400 CDs? Not the shittiest CDs ever but maybe a little generic, which is why I didn't list them online. All in good condition.

Tolaca Luke (admrl), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:27 (fifteen years ago)

the way amoeba is now, u will probably get anywhere from 200-400$. they barely take anything anymore, and the ones they do take, they give a buck to 3 (5 if you're lucky). they used to give you 4-6$ per cd
