lbj, i think i listened to a dayle stanley LP once and was not particularly taken in; not that one though. i've definitely never seen that record.

had such high hopes for this hipster yard sale we went to today. cool books (brautigan, bradbury, vonnegut), cool tapes (its not every yard sale where i can pick up glenn branca, dogbowl, and half japanese tapes), and some 45s (got 45s in sorta decent shape by the duprees, jr walker, james & bobby purify, scott mckenzie, deon jackson, the blades of grass, and the chicago loop), but no long-playing LPs. they were the only thing missing!

Hard to read that.. it's "Bridges" by West. Nice mellow country-sike. Very mildly sike, but there are a few 'heady' moments.

love both albums. think i mentioned them on the west coast thread. love the production so much. bob johnston majik.

don't even think they were an actual "band", you know? more of a studio thing? i think i put them on that west coast mix that i never ended up putting online for that thread. i love how the songs are perfect miniatures. i love an album with lots of short songs. it's like haiku pop.

On a bit of a Steve Ellis buzz at the moment - picked up records by Love Affair and Widowmaker last month, and now this today. He's close to being up there with Marriott as a singer, and this could be a good Humble Pie record...at least

Scott, the Rockets LP you gave me is Plasteroid -- it's great! I even put it in a Space Rock Essentials column I did for SPIN. Also have a CD by them, called Galactica -- like that one, too.

geez.. didn't even realize I owned this ... went trawling through my stacks trying to figure out if I still had my copy of the Moody Blues' "Long Distance Voyager" (I definitely had it at one point, just wasn't sure if I threw it out or gave it away or whatever), and lo and behold I found the Morning LP, which is actually on my want list!! I have no recollection of ever buying this. so weird. and I'm usually way OCD about this kind of crap. real nice copy too!

never did find that Moody Blues LP. I think I may have actually thrown the thing out or something! Old purge. eh, it's such a dollar bin staple, I'll get another copy for a buck or less

Picked up my new record player today. Was worried I wouldn't be able to tell the difference enough to make the extra money worth spending but it really does sound a lot better than my old one!

yeah, go for it, you'll dig them if you dig the rest. Modern Times is decent 1981 hard rock mixed with the wacky Kantner tunes, which always sound the same (harmony vocals over aimless anthemic melodies shouting at The Man).
