xxpost kinda agree about Hemispheres. never could really get into the Cygnus X-1 II Suite and 'The Trees' is dumb, but 'La Villa Strangiato' is my all-time fave prog Rush jam. now I gotta find Exit...Stage Left.

someone brought in all this fat cat stuff. are HIM any good? i guess that would be different then the metal HIM. how about mice parade? the dylan group?

plus, what is dymaxion? record looks kinda cool.

scott seward, Saturday, 3 July 2010 16:29 (sixteen years ago)

i have a fatcat label sampler and the dylan group song was the track i played the most. don't know dymaxion.

one time gaffled 'em up (one time), Saturday, 3 July 2010 16:42 (sixteen years ago)

both the fat cat HIM and mice parade are sorta like a twee tortoise. i think most of the dudes had decent jazz chops, but from what i remember they were basically playing twinkly post rock. i think the girl from mum eventually joined mice parade if that tells you anything

yeah my eyes did that right around the line about freckled ppl stealing all your watermelon. i've always meant to start a thread about civil rights stances in country music. cuz i'd love to hear more of them.

I kinda agree re: the 'Hemispheres' discussion upthread, first side "suite" is really a chore to get through. it's no 2112. But that second side is pretty great. "Circumstances" is a great little song, one that they played on their last tour... and as someone else mentioned, "La Villa Strangiato"..>!!!

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 4 July 2010 08:22 (sixteen years ago)

I am going to see them on Monday. Can't fucking wait

black dice - creature comforts

never listened to them before. pretty wacky. i remember when this came out and i almost bought it cuz everyone was raving about them, but i never did.

wait, i lied! i bought an EP by them once. played it once and later traded it back. i guess they aren't my kind of thing? i dunno. this record sounds okay. maybe they were better live? or maybe i just need to hear beaches and canyons cuz that's their masterpiece? they had an album out last year apparently and i never heard a thing about it. are people not digging them anymore? so many questions, sorry...

i love creature comforts, and a bunch of the new 12"s (roll up/drool is my favorite) -- i dont like beaches and canyons as much. i dont think it aged super well? i like the wastered 12" too.

I actually used to own that exact Weill/Milhaud LP once! Just bought it randomly (& cheaply), I'm sure. Is it considered some kinda definitive recording? If so, I was probably really stupid to get rid of it.
