Okay, I totally lied about that stupid Jessica Simpson 12-inch. Or at least I spoke too soon -- typed that before actually playing the thing. Original unremixed hit version had "Jack And Diane" all over it, and the back of the 12-inch sleeve says "contains elements from 'Jack and Diane'" etc., but the idiot remixers Peter Rauhofer, Lenny B, and Soda Club all ENTIRELY GOT RID OF THE ONLY GREAT PART OF THE SONG, when I figured they would stretch the riff into eternity like sensible human beings. No wonder it wound up in Metal Mike's discard pile. Sometimes I really hate dance music. And John Cougar was more danceable anyway.

ian, you ever check out gene cotton? got two of his 70's albums on myrrh. he's not really very christian-y though. southern country/folky stuff. albums i got are *in the gray of the morning* and *liberty*. at his worst he's don mclean. at his best he's uh a lot better than don mclean. lotsa southern social protest stuff. good music too though. i can imagine mojo magazine writing an appreciation of him.
