It was kind of a tough call cuz I haven't been record shopping in a while and I could have gotten three or four other LPs for the same money (including a copy of Friendsound that I thought was a steal at 20 bucks, but I already have a reissue of that one anyway). But that's what I went to the store intending to get so I stuck to my guns. It's pretty cool. Think I'm gonna listen to the third LP right now.

dmr, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 03:11 (sixteen years ago)

where was that copy of friendsound, dave? WANT

ian, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 05:14 (sixteen years ago)

Other Music! sorry should have mentioned it earlier, this was on Sunday that I saw it but maybe still there? in the used rock section. I *think* it was an original, it had a guy's name on the front in marker. I was surprised it was so cheap. Condition looked ok on quick inspection.

dmr, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 11:50 (sixteen years ago)

perhaps i'll check it out. not that i need to spend more money on records right now.

So 2 weeks ago I went into the local shop to pick up a single Matmos ticket, and since "I have the willpower to not buy something when in a record store" I ended up buying $110 of used records.

Today I see there's a half off sale on all used vinyl.

:(

oh dude you will not regret this!

69, Monday, 28 June 2010 16:33 (fifteen years ago)

Ya. I listened to the first side this morning. I like the sounds they're using (electric keyboard). It's mellow & loose but not too free. I like the bits with spoken word on them a bunch. I asked jazz dude at amoeba about the record and he said some shit about not liking synths and I said "maybe we should stop talking right now". Jazz taste is pretty particular.

jaxon, Monday, 28 June 2010 17:01 (fifteen years ago)

oh wait do you not like free jazz???

69, Monday, 28 June 2010 17:06 (fifteen years ago)

if you like this one, get GEECHEE RECOLLECTIONS, too. same vein, though a little less electric-key heavy...

69, Monday, 28 June 2010 17:07 (fifteen years ago)

i've definitely spent A LOT of time listening to free jazz, but i'm a lot more mellow now in my listening tastes. kinda why i was able to let go of my free-er don cherry records to you (and ebay). been listening to lots of jazz again, but more on a funky and/or smooth tip. and always love stuff w/vocals

jaxon, Monday, 28 June 2010 17:32 (fifteen years ago)

hmm check out marion brown's VISTA if you see it, too!
