Stormy Davis, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 02:13 (sixteen years ago)

i love my neck of the woods. cooped up on that island for six years i did the best i could, and i did all right, but let loose in the real world i feel like a new man.

scott seward, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 02:20 (sixteen years ago)

oh and that machine album is likewise HIGHLYYYYYYY rekked by me if any of you don't own it. it rules. has everyone heard it? funkyass disco guitar jams produced by august darnell? so fuckin' phat. its like rilly good drugs and much cheaper. jaxon must have a copy. don't remember talk about it on any threads.

scott seward, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 02:23 (sixteen years ago)

disco stuff i got at a store in vermont. they had bought a dj collection. i left a lot of stuff cuz i had spent my money for the day. they had every lime album. i would kinda like to own every lime album, but i had to stop. everything was nice and clean. not all beat up like some ancient dj collections.

scott seward, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 02:28 (sixteen years ago)

I LOVE that Dorothy Carter LP, Scott!

ian, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 03:53 (sixteen years ago)

just got back from NY. didn't really get a chance to go record shopping. bought a few from a friend and a few at academy bk (unfortunately ian wasn't working but the dudes there were nice enough to knock a bit off for a friend's discount).

Görl - Night Full of Tension (amazing funky new wave from one of dudes in DAF. annie lennox on vocals on one track)
Sisters of Mercy - Anaconda/Phantom 7". (never actually listened to these guys before, but it's from 83. phantom is great morriconesque dark synth stuff)

Wide Boy Awake - Slang Teacher (some bootleg 12" with when in rome "the promise" on bside. ha. some asshole on discogs is selling this boot for 200 euro)
Propaganda - P-Machinery/Frozen Faces 12"
Heatwave - Central Heating
the Sparks - Beat the Clock picture disc 12"

jaxon, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 19:54 (sixteen years ago)

scott. i don't have that Machine LP. i have the 12" for "There But For The Grace Of God Go I". i never play it out though because the intro is only like 1 bar long. not long enough to mix in. i had the LP and the 12" in my hands one time and an employee told me the rest of the album wasn't good, so i passed.

jaxon, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 19:59 (sixteen years ago)

that employee was wrong!

scott seward, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:00 (sixteen years ago)

also, if you don't have that particular nightlife unlimited album, you need it.

scott seward, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:00 (sixteen years ago)

wow good score on the Anaconda/Phantom 7", been looking for that for a loooong time (xxxp)

bug holocaust (sleeve), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:59 (sixteen years ago)

o bummer. both me and a friend picked up a copy. they were both like 7$

jaxon, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 21:13 (sixteen years ago)

that machine 12" IS great.

i'd probably like that nightlife unlimited album also.

i can't tell how serious this question is? u_u

tony hayward jablowme (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 13 June 2010 18:24 (sixteen years ago)

i'm new to this whole "buying new vinyl" thing. When my brand new Goldfrapp LP has a skip the first time out of the shrinkwrap, am I supposed to:

a) Complain to the label
b) Return it to the record store
c) Suck it up
d) Treat this as some Christian Marclay statement on the originality of my LP and consider myself blessed that I'm enlightened enough to appreciate the permeability of my physical object

tony hayward jablowme (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 13 June 2010 20:14 (sixteen years ago)

Definitely C if it's just one skip.

I bought The Best of Bread yesterday. I'd never bought a Bread record before. Really like all of Side One. David Gates is really good.

timellison, Sunday, 13 June 2010 21:03 (sixteen years ago)

for used records, especially cheap ones, i can overlook a skip.

for a new LP, i'd take it back and exchange it for another copy.

e) blog about the sorry state of vinyl manufacturing

sarahel, Sunday, 13 June 2010 21:09 (sixteen years ago)

shit's 180 gram! I wonder if maybe my needle just isn't pressing hard enuf?

tony hayward jablowme (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 13 June 2010 21:12 (sixteen years ago)

Re. Gates: I mean REALLY good. I just never tuned in on it before, hearing those songs on the radio.

timellison, Sunday, 13 June 2010 21:13 (sixteen years ago)

seriously it seems like every other discussion on sp0ckm0rgu3 is complaining about the problems with vinyl pressing and manufacturers and such.

sarahel, Sunday, 13 June 2010 21:16 (sixteen years ago)

the goldfrapp vinyl came with a CD in a little sleeve and that seems like the best solution to pretty much everything. i wish more bands would do that instead of providing completely useless "download cards" for me to throw away

tony hayward jablowme (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 13 June 2010 21:19 (sixteen years ago)

i can't imagine some kid in a used record store 20 years from now coming across a "download card" and not ROFLing over how retarded and useless it is.

tony hayward jablowme (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 13 June 2010 21:20 (sixteen years ago)

New Liars LP has the CD in there too iirc

tony hayward jablowme (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 13 June 2010 21:21 (sixteen years ago)

a) Complain to the label
b) Return it to the record store
c) Suck it up

how new is your needle? sometimes if I have a brand new record that skips it's cuz my needle's getting worn out (esp. if the record's really bass-y)

I think Ian was being sincere btw? who knows, lol

dmr, Sunday, 13 June 2010 21:32 (sixteen years ago)

re: download card if I'm buying on vinyl I don't want a second copy on CD to take up shelf space, I want files for my ipod

dmr, Sunday, 13 June 2010 21:37 (sixteen years ago)

a little CD in a cardboard sleeve barely takes up a 1/8 inch of space and will mean digital files for your ipod long after your hard drive crashes

tony hayward jablowme (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 13 June 2010 21:39 (sixteen years ago)

real answer is to not buy vinyl -- can't remember if i've ever had a CD skip right out of the jewel case

ksh, Sunday, 13 June 2010 21:41 (sixteen years ago)

great board to air this opinion on

plax (ico), Sunday, 13 June 2010 21:44 (sixteen years ago)

i certainly think so

yeah, sorry y'all -- you're right, wasn't the thread for me to suggest switching to CDs

ksh, Sunday, 13 June 2010 22:01 (sixteen years ago)

xxpost Best of Bread is the classic $1 record. pure 24k mellow gold

No one is too good for this album; it is better than all of us. (herb albert), Monday, 14 June 2010 00:12 (sixteen years ago)
