Yo xhuxk, how's that Bloodrock record? I picked it up for a couple bucks about a year ago in condition I thought was at least playable but I was sorely mistaken.

so glad i picked up this record. bought sooooooo many xian folk rekkerds over the years hoping for...something. you know? and it was only three bucks. bought it cuz there was a band credited on the back. electric guitar/organ/electric bass/drums. which is a good sign. and there is a song called "military industrial complex" on it. figured that had to be worth 3 dollars. but "and they killed him"! what a dirge! great acid guitar break in the middle and tribal drum beats. it pays to be patient sometimes.

pretty good write-up on the heavenly grooves blog:

"On With Joy the ‘60s big-beat folk style of Edwin’s debut is left behind for hipper rock sounds and quieter acoustic-with-piano pastures. Electric guitar, fuzz and organ make appearances, bringing a dated quasi-psych feel to the title track, ‘Lonely Little Lady’, ‘Questions And Answers’ and ‘Hell Of A Heaven’. Even some acid rock moves on the psychedelic Eastern-influenced ‘And They Killed Him’. He’s not as radical as Ylvisaker or The Mission, but he’s still hangin’ in there pretty good. Whimsical melodies become the vehicle for Edwin’s satirical side on ‘Keep America Beautiful’, ‘Military Industrial Complex’, ‘What Is Christmas All About?’ and ‘Postmortem Presents’. The latter begins with a funeral (“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here…”), then proceeds in song with the dead person’s requests on who should be the recipients of his various body parts. A worthwhile record, even if it’s not as professional or consistent as Keep The Rumor Going. (Ken Scott - Archivist)"

69, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 22:14 (sixteen years ago)

of course the dippy stuff is still pretty dippy. but the fun stuff is fun.

did i mention that i also bought a copy of osmium for four dollars yesterday? haha! sorry. still can't get over that. i'm like a little kid when it comes to stuff like that.

Hey what'd you get? I know these guys! Or actually I met a number of ppl on that label a couple years ago when I was in Edinburgh and jammed with them a little bit; I forget who actually runs Giant Tank tbh. But some top notch nice folks!

"Hey what'd you get? I know these guys!"

guy named ali sent me stuff. including a split cd of his band usurper and a band called sticky foster. giant tank stuff is by dead labour process, peeesseye, f.r.u., and shareholder.

definitely my kinda experimental weirdness. gonna make them my label of the month in my next column.

scott seward, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 15:05 (sixteen years ago)

digging this. early 80's private press prog/psych. used to be a pretty pricy record until someone started selling a box full of sealed copies on ebay this year. so, 30 bucks instead of a hundred. maybe its one of the band members selling them. makes sense. cool male/female vox.

got a max creek album today too. creeeeeeeeeek! the deadheads at my high school LOVED the creek. one of the first big dead-aping bands of the 70's and 80's. well, club bands. they should have hit it big instead of phish.

do it your way is in my top 100 albums all time. or top 20 albums of the 70's. of all time. if i had such a list. lets just say its one of my favorite records of all time. there are just some records that hit me hard from head to toe and that's one of them.

listening to twilight of honor soundtrack. never heard of the movie. richard chamberlain! nick adams! claude rains! and introducing joey heatherton! joey was sooooo hotsy totsy back then. and this soundtrack is super swanky.

Oh yeah Ali and Malcy are great, and really funny live when I saw them. Really like that band. And Malcy makes really awesome comics if you can get your hands on 'em (which you can).
