v/a - The Rural Blues - Sacred Tradition 1927-30 (another Herwin gospel comp. Mother McCollum, Edward Clayborn, Eddie Head.)

both herwins are slightly water damaged so they were only $10 apiece.

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Sunday, 16 May 2010 02:17 (sixteen years ago)

went to my usual haunts today and picked up clean euro classical and various odds and ends. then went somewhere that i never go to because, duh, its not a record store, and my jaw dropped a little. i can go to the regular used record stores around here and only find one or two things that speak to me. most of the time. but today was a whole 'nother thing all together. the gods smiled upon me. AND i spent more than i like to spend. especially cuz i am not swimming in cash or anything. so, the rest of my week will be spent putting stuff on ebay. (also, cuz last week at the store was kinda deadsville except for friday and saturday.) but i had to buy this stuff. couldn't just leave it there unloved!

ANYWAY, i spent one hundred american dollars and this is what i got:

cymande - second time round (janus) (super clean)

captain beefheart & his magic band - mirror man (original buddha die cut cover. super clean)

johnny taylor - greatest hits (stax)

james brown - hell (awesome copy. both albums clean as a whistle.)

the fatback band - raising hell (event)

robert edwin - with joy (fortress records) (an ACTUAL early 70's private press christian folk record with ACTUAL psych fuzz guitar and effects! very cool!)

isis - ain't no backin' up now (buddha) (needed this! didn't know how long it would take to find a nice copy. not that long, really.)

compost - life is round (love this album! need the other one. if you've never heard it, you will love it too. i never see either record come around.)

small faces - s/t (WB)

johnnie taylor - taylored in silk (stax)

eddie kendricks - he's a friend (tamla)

johnny hammond smith - stimulation (prestige) (solid vg copy. tape on top of cover. sounds really good.)

the ventures - flights of fantasy (probably my fave of the "psych" ventures albums and the one that you don't see as often as their other records. mono copies are really hard to come by. this is a stereo copy though. sounds friggin' amazing.)

lavender jane - loves women (early 70's lesbian folk. it will look good on the wall at the store.)

sugarcane harris - s/t (epic) (nice copy. shuggie otis is on it for shuggie otis fans.)

don wilkerson - preach brother! (blue note) (siked to have this! someone wrote in pen on the front and back cover, which is kind of a bummer, but the album sounds great! hell, mint copies sell for...um, i'm not sure, but a bunch, i'm sure!)

kalyan - s/t (mca) (this is a great album and its usually cheap, so if you see it cheap, buy it. great mix of funk/disco/soca. really really good funky stuff.)

parliament - osmium (invictus) (!!!!!!!) (the bad news: there is a big split on the bottom of the cover. good news: vinyl is clean and it comes with the lyric sheet. some surface noise, but all in all it sounds nice. i can live with some imperfections cuz i paid four dollars for it.) (!!!!!!!)
