title cut ("Down Home Blues") is so awesome, and linked to so many memories of the decade or so I spent in Hyde Park when blues dj Arkansas Red used to cane it during his show on WHPK. everytime I come across a copy of the LP tho it is trashed. Malaco records fans didn't treat their records very well!

Yeah, I said that exact thing on the buy-for-$1 and Chitlin Circuit Soul threads a couple weeks ago. Seems I'm more likely to buy a scratchy Southern Soul LP than any other genre. But that ZZ Hill Down Home fortunately didn't sound as scratchy as it looked!

And yeah, "Night Fishin'" by Bobby Rush is an awesome track. No idea if it's on vinyl, either; I know it from that Trikont Motel Lovers: Southern Soul From The Chitlin’ Circuit comp CD from a few years back, though I've heard it on Southern Soul shows on the radio here now and then, too. Stuff's way more plentiful in Texas than any other place I've lived (at least since, I guess, Fort Knox, Kentucky back in 1986; I got to know it there, and in Augusta, Georgia a few years earlier.)

Played Patchwork's self-titled RCA debut (and maybe only album), from 1972; can't find any photos on line. Deadhead country/folk/soft/hippie-rock, sometimes with nice melodies and harmonies, but not a keeper. Plus my copy is in pretty bad shape.

Chuck -- I am interested in that Tom Johnston LP ! actually, I am curious -- when did Tom make that LP? because the whole thing was that he left the Doobies because he supposedly had some sort of health issues.

so if Tom Johnston actually made a solo LP on the side, I guess he wasn't so broke up that he couldn't have worked with the Doobies. I'd kinda like to hear that
