what do you think of the Stray Dog? I remember checking that out of my college radio station and thinking it paled in comparison the the first LP. but that was 15 years ago and i can't remember a thing about what it sounds like. still have my copy of the first LP tho

that stray dog i was listening to isn't very memorable, but the guitars are cool. it ain't no point blank debut, that's for sure.

yeah Ian, it was on my want-list for a while too (always was specifically after the 2lp versh tho), finally went the eBay route. it took FOREVER to even see a listing (although plenty of listings for the orig), but when it finally showed up I actually won it for 17 bucks. not bad. GREAT album too, basically the lost Grateful Dead album

saw these guys' first show ever last night, and they were excellent. it was almost criminal how much they ripped off the bats, but the songs were like just about as good as bats songs, so whatever. the one guy's fake accent was a little funny, but i mean, i was in a band called the fake accents, so again, whatever, i get it. the LP is good, but not quite as good, a little murkier and lower-fi. live, they were in full chime and ring. they kept talking about how nervous they were, but like, it was note-perfect as far as i could tell, and not in a boring or lifeless way.

the main draw last night was SURF CITY though (putting the EP on now), playing only their 4th US show ever. their EP was in my top 2 or 3 records of 2008, and i was really stoked to see them. guitars were awesome, they played a little slower than the record, but it was so great. shambly in the right part, good noize factor, just like a really really faithful nouveau-flying nun thing. in fact, their full-length, due out this year would be the PERFECT re-launch of the revived flying nun...
