does it have John Sebastian doing "Welcome Back"? that might have been my first ever "favorite pop song" as a kid. my folks had the 45 and i used to play it constantly. many times in a row

Stormy Davis, Thursday, 11 March 2010 00:24 (sixteen years ago)

I still have a "Welcome Back" 45!

playing this now though:

just finished:

http://www.stonesthrow.com/uploads/images/product/detail/minimal-wave.jpg

really dug the first side, my interest started to wonder a little throughout sides 2,3,4. Not sure if that's just means i'm not much of a hipster or if they front-loaded the thing.

urban ensemble/roland vazquez

on grp. 1979. kind of the epitome of the dave grusin aesthetic. and the creative height, if you ask me. though there were good 80's albums to come. (and some really horrible ones.)

scott seward, Thursday, 11 March 2010 03:18 (sixteen years ago)

I like that Bill Nelson/Red Noise LP a lot.

i pulled out my copy of the Copperhead album, inspired by Scott's post from the other week (and his Quicksilver 'Happy Trails' yesterday.) yeah, better than I remembered. now keeping the Cipollina party going with-

listening to Charles Lloyd's Big Sur Tapestry album from 1979. So beautiful. Such a stoner album. In case you haven't heard it, the first side is flute, chinese oboe, and harp. and the second side was recorded at brian wilson's house. that's all you need to know.

yeah side two on that 'Maximum Darkness' (where they do Man songs) is definitely better than side one (where they do Quicksilver songs)

I'm kinda a Man completist. Everything up through 'Maximum Darkness' except the one immediately preceding it, 'Slow Motion' (where they copped the Mad magazine logo), but i'm sure i'll buy that one someday. stoned Welsh rock band heavily influenced by West Coast jammage like Quicksilver? sign me up. 'Be Good To Yourself At Least Once A Day' is definitely thee classic in their catalog

Stormy Davis, Thursday, 11 March 2010 03:56 (sixteen years ago)

the only Charles Lloyd I have is 'Love-In' with my main man Jack DeJohnette on drums. I'm sure I need to get more of his stuff too. description of Big Sur Tapestry sounds amazing

Stormy Davis, Thursday, 11 March 2010 03:58 (sixteen years ago)

70's charles lloyd records are a trip. lotsa bliss involved. and there is the truly bizarre moon man album. that thing is bonkers.

scott seward, Thursday, 11 March 2010 04:11 (sixteen years ago)

aw now you are talking! I haven't seen those first two clips (will watch now), but that 'Mona' clip is all-time acid dream

Stormy Davis, Thursday, 11 March 2010 04:26 (sixteen years ago)

actually rewatching the 'Mona' clip I'm reminded the only bad thing is that Dino is back in the fold, but thankfully he buts out for the most part. Not enough JC action shots though.

man that Dead clip is great. after JC and Jerry just kill it, you wonder why Bobby even bothers with that lame slide jive.

I have a couple Charles Lloyd albums around here. Actually really liked this one on ECM just a few years ago, Jumping The Creek. But the Pacific Arts one from '78 I picked up for a buck last summer, Wearings, left me hungry. Maybe I need to put it back on again.

But for now, I'm still on a new wave powerpop kick.

xxpost - TV Themes are by studio hacks 'The Pop Singers and Orchestra' on Peter Pan Records, so Kotter is Sebastianesque. I think Chico was my jam at the time. all the cop shows kick ass, I should make a tape for the car.

One of the many Lightnin' Hopkins records called 'Lightnin' Strikes - this one's is double on UK A&M that compiles electric stuff he did in Hollywood in '65 with Earl Palmer, Jimmy Bond and, incongruously, a trombone on quite a few tracks....rocks, but gently...

don't think i've heard that badarou single... what's it like? some of his stuff is like my absolute favorite shit ever and other stuff is kind of insufferable and too new-agey for even me

why did i punish myself with barry miles records last night? they are such an endurance test. dude looks innocent enough and then BLAMMO 20 minute synth solo!

The cover is hilarious. Haven't decided about the music yet. Just got it for $1 last weekend; this one too:

had never heard this before. always wanted one but originals on Deram are so damn expensive. finally got around to playing the beat-up-looking starter copy I bought a few months back, and its actually sounds surprisingly clean. and it's a good record! and Scott it has one of your favorite things, too -- a jokey olde-tymey track in the middle of a psych record

Stormy Davis, Friday, 12 March 2010 02:43 (sixteen years ago)

^^ luv the Sidran. "Now I Live (And Now My Life Is Done)" is the JAM
