nice on the George Freeman, scott! big Chi-town fave. cover on my copy of 'Man & Woman' looks different but same general image. his earlier stuff is probably best -- 'Birth Sign' on the amazing Delmark label. and then his Groove Merchant debut 'New Improved Funk', the first cut is like 2 minutes long but it sounds like Can! I love George. used to go see him down the street at Fred Anderson's Velvet Lounge until George seemingly just dropped off the scene altogether.

Jimmy Spheeris -- I'm a decent fan of 'Isle of View'. but, for whatever reason, I never explored any of the stuff after that. I will definitely try to find the next couple columbia ones he did.

'The Cowboy and the Lady' -- this is a good example where I own the CD and not the LP.

I bought the Smells Like CD reissue to get "You Turn My Head Around" -- seriously one of the GREATEST PSychedelic traxxs of all-time.

However there have been opposite examples. Like forever I had a copy of Randy California's 'Kapt Kopter and the Twirley Birds' album. and then I learned that there was actually a non-LP single around the same time. A *and* B side. so I sought that shit out and bought it on eBay. Then of course years later all the Kapt Kopter stuff comes out on a CD. But as far as the Margret/Hazlewood stuff it was all new to me at the time so I lept for that CD that included the 45 on it...

the title track on that spheeris record, the dragon is dancing, is, like, uber-beardo action. beardo to the max. i dig his vibe. breezy. lotsa pot smoke. interesting vocals. he was one skinny hippie who knew how to put an album together.

i'm sure i will end up picking up more of his stuff when i come across it...

love the october file. always sounds great. only saw die kreuzen once opening for sonic tooth and whenever they played a song off of that album i would get chills.

only saw the stones once too - 1989? - and they were almost as good as die kreuzen. i was impressed. i had little to no expectations for a stones show in 1989.

who plays bass on "live with me" on let it bleed? can't be bill wyman. soooooooooooo phat.

i would like to publicly declare 2009/2010 as the time where my adult stones love as finally blossomed. i finally heard exile - last year - in the way that people who drool all over that album hear it. it hit me. it finally hit me. don't know why it took so long. i was very patient. i've been a stones fan since i was a little kid. but i never had that deep powerful love like i had for the kinks and the beatles. now it seems like every album i put on sounds like the most awesome thing i've ever heard. i honestly feel like i heard sticky fingers for the first time last year. having the store helps. lots of stones vinyl comes and goes and i can play really nice copies/pressings and this makes a big difference. all stones vinyl not being equal.

HAS finally blossomed.

<3 the stones. maybe the kinks will hit me someday, too.

love 'em both a great deal. I think I've seen the Stones like 6 times since 1999. I was a latebloomer to the idea that the Stones wouldn't suck live at the time. I was soured on seeing old guys after seeing The Who at the Pontiac Silverdome in 1990, possibly the worst concert experience ever. but the Stones are great live! they change the setlist every night, which keeps it interesting. Last time I saw 'em they even played a song they'd never done live before ("She Was Hot")

was listening to the great Little Feat s/t album the other night and it struck my that the Stones simply HAD to have heard that record before they made Exile.

cool! i'll definitely look for his stuff. I have the Popul Vuh record that came out on IC, but I think that may be it. it didn't get into it too much but I probably haven't played it in like 10 years. Will have to pull it out again soon.
