we have so many of the same shitty dollar records. i remember either liking at least one song on here a little bit or there was a skip in one of the songs that created a nice loop. either which way, the rest is bleh

xp Well, even though Bernard and the Goofus Five were on that Western Swing comp, they've got the earliest cut on it (1927), and I get the idea from the liner notes (which lump them in with Emmett Miller) that they're there more as a (possibly blackface? -- no photos on the LP) minstrel show precursor of the genre than as an actual participant.

Over a three year period in the late 1990s, Charlie Brooks embarked on two long field recording trips in Madagasikara. Brooks primarily concentrated on the more remote north and west regions of the island. Upon his return in 1999 he pressed 200 copies of a triple record and stored them under his bed for the last ten years. In anticipation of putting out a full run of a single lp version (MR-067 Fajanana) we are distributing a limited number of copies. There are three themed Lps: Vocal, Valiha Marovany and Miscellaneous Instruments. Comes with a sixteen page booklet of photography and notes.

jub band rekkerd is great. i'm gonna put it out in the store and if nobody buys it in a month i'm taking it home. i have a washboard sam album and a memphis jug band album at home, but i can't remember what is on them.

The jug band record on Yazoo to have is the Memphis Jug Band Double Album one from 1982! One of my favorite albums. (Lots of the songs also came out on a Yazoo CD called Best Of in 2001, fwiw. And the label also put out a real good two-volume jug band comp called Ruckus Juice And Chittlins: The Great Jug Bands on CD in 1998.)

Could not find a picture of The Petitioners' 12-inch EP on Rudyland Records from 2004, or White Wizzard's new "Over The Top"/"Gates Of Gehenna" 7-inch, on line, but I played those anyway. Then I played this (which is an entire LP even though it looks small in this picture):

Sounds interesting, there's a Goofus Five track (Vo-do-do-de-o Blues) on a OKeh comp I ordered last night (Hot Dance Bands 1923-1931). Not very Western based on the preview - looks like Bernard started incorporating the hillbilly elements in the mid-late 20s (according to Wikipedia/Eugene Chadbourne).

Last night I ended up listening to a Recordio (home cut record) of an amateur farting contest; not the Windeshmere / Boomer thing, this one was recorded locally (to me) in Swedesboro.

Tonight it's a big stack of Spanish and Italian 45s, nothing that great so far except for Freddy Y Boruga's Venga Aca. Spanish novelty disco rap from 1980.

was listening to that al kooper/shuggie otis album. that's a pretty good record. never played it before. now i'm playing jesse colin young's light shine album. he does a *California Suite* on this album for all you west coast 70's ilm thread trainspotters.

man, i tried to listen to that side-long cat stevens foreigner suite yesterday. i just couldn't do it. and it even has some nice pretty purdie beats on it. i can't take that much cat yowling. what a yowler. i never thought about it, but his name was truly apt. whenever he gets hot and bothered it's like a bad imitation of judas from jesus christ superstar. ouch.

how come i never get into robert fripp solo albums? i love king crimson. i like his production and sideman work. i love brian eno albums. kinda feel the same way about john cale solo albums. i APPRECIATE them and all that, but i never get into them or wanna hear them much.

other artists i've determined i never really need to hear: be bop deluxe, ry cooder.

I like Fripp's Exposure as much as almost any Crimson album! But that's just me.
