Thread for parenting and school issues relating to personal tech (screens, games, social media, etc.)

A growing issue that a lot of parents I know seem a bit at a loss how to manage.

One thing I am wondering from you all: does your school give out chromebooks or other similar devices? And if so, does the school place any kinds of controls, blocks or limits on the devices, or alternatively does it enable parents to do so?

three weeks pass...

My kids middle school originally gave out iPads which were a tota bitch to do anything on that involved putting answers in boxes. I swear homework time was increased by double. Now they only use them at school occasionally. They have some kind of spy software where they can see exactly what any kid in the classroom is doing at any time. My kid has been busted for playing games maybe 5 times.

My other kid is in high school and they got Chromebook’s on day one and still has the same one going into 12th grade. I’m sure there are some sort of blocks in them - porn and what not — but chromebooks don’t have a whole lot you can do on them anyway. It’s never been an issue.
