immortan joe, is that u?

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 4 June 2015 19:31 (eleven years ago)

so Marin's been going to a child-minder's 3 days a week since Sarah went back to work a month ago, and it was really rough at first, and drop-offs were teary affairs that were painful to then go off to work from until literally this week - but she seems to have a pretty amazing time while there, and I am loving the pix the child-minder takes of her.

She is *really into books at the moment, too, though rarely patient enough to let me finish reading one to her.

My lord she is so cute.

Are there other kids at the child-minder's? I had a hard time taking Ivy to daycare at first, too, but now she loooooves it and it helps her to be very social and learn to share (although last week she expressed her displeasure that her favorite teacher was paying attention to another kid by biting that kid, so there's still work to be done), which is key since she's an only. So even though it's tough, I think that's a really good benefit to childcare.

Also, and I didn't believe this at first, but it is really nice to have some kid-free time. I'm working, so it's not like I'm getting wasted and watching horror movies or anything, but it's nice to be able to focus on something other than the urgent and inscrutable needs of an 18 month old for a few hours each day.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Friday, 5 June 2015 16:03 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, lots of other kids, and she's always been crazy about other kids, so she now has a bunch of older "siblings" to hang with. Also they have lots of food, because Marin is an eater, and I don't think any of you understand just how much of a bottomless pit she is. I picked her up the other day and she gazed into the child-minder's kitchen and started saying "mmmmmm!" because she spotted a fruit bowl with some bananas in it.

"making fake moustaches"

"ok... what are you making them out of?"

"cinnamon sticks"

Delightful! :~{

Stevie I bet she's about to hit a big milestone and she's building up some energy. The pointing and Mmmmmm!ing is great because at least you know what she wants.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Friday, 5 June 2015 16:30 (eleven years ago)

tooth number five arrived yesterday, and she's worked out how to make an "oink" sound when asked what a pig says - can there be any milestones left to arrive??

NotKnowPotato (stevie), Friday, 5 June 2015 16:36 (eleven years ago)

Can't remember if we talked about it here, but the first few weeks of F going to nursery were traumatic, and left us all in bits. And now he's pretty delighted with things. Still not too wild about other kids, but I think it's mostly because he's still finding his feet and they're all high-speed.

stet, Friday, 5 June 2015 16:40 (eleven years ago)

Yeah Ivy is in the process of moving to the toddler room which needs to happen ASAP because she basically mauls little babies with kisses and attention now. I never thought she'd be too rough for anyone, she was always so wee, but her love is intense, physical, and slobbery.

Proper summer, that.

Awesome. I so want Marin to get bitten by the Peanuts bug.

appropriation and whatnot (stevie), Monday, 15 June 2015 19:50 (eleven years ago)

I mean, I'll wait until she can read first, but...

appropriation and whatnot (stevie), Monday, 15 June 2015 19:51 (eleven years ago)

I pushed a Peanuts book on Beeps. She liked it ok, but was surprised by the fact that Snoopy actually had dialogue.

pplains, Monday, 15 June 2015 20:05 (eleven years ago)

because she had seen the cartoons already? i don't think we've shown sylvie the cartoons yet ... but I was thinking about how weird it is that snoopy is silent on those -- it's kind of a big part of the comic strip!

tylerw, Monday, 15 June 2015 22:29 (eleven years ago)

Yeah. Heck, he does "talk" in those weird yawning squeaks and whines.

pplains, Tuesday, 16 June 2015 00:12 (eleven years ago)

We showed Marin the xmas special this christmas. She was unimpressed, though she was 7 months old at the time.

appropriation and whatnot (stevie), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 09:54 (eleven years ago)

She's pretty much unimpressed by tv as a whole so far, which might sound like a humblebrag but oh my god how i wish she'd zone out for thirty minutes in front of peppa pig every now and again.

appropriation and whatnot (stevie), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 09:54 (eleven years ago)

Also they have a big box of off-model Snoopy toys at out local library for kids to play with, I was clearly much more excited about this than she was.

appropriation and whatnot (stevie), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 09:55 (eleven years ago)

Even though I told Ava we would be walking for a good couple of hours on Sunday, she insisted on bringing the 1965-66 volume with her...

My mother-in-law introduced the boys to Peppa Pig and Doc McStuffins and I am basically overjoyed that there are children's programs out there that aren't Barney.

I Am Curious (Dolezal) (DJP), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 13:39 (eleven years ago)

Doc McStuffins is popular around here, too.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 13:48 (eleven years ago)

Rastamouse, Mr Tumble and In The Night Garden are the only ones that get any attention from F at the moment. His wiggle during the Rastamouse credits is well cute.

Madchen, Tuesday, 16 June 2015 14:17 (eleven years ago)

haha, great pic, michael jones ... yeah we've been lugging those things around town. tried to convince her to bring some paperbacks but she refuses.

peppa pig is p great

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 16:04 (eleven years ago)

Peppa Pig is actually awesome, agreed. I especially enjoyed one Ella watched recently where the plot involved the Pig family, some ducks and some wolves being ferried back and forth over a river in a comedy reenactment of the old logic problem.

And it only twigged the other day that Mr Rabbit is a Welsh rabbit
