Haha Mike I wish. I was shooting photos of Carnival and I had to take that camera home from work the previous Friday so that I'd have it on the day. I had no idea how HEAVY those cameras are. But I wish I'd had the foresight to take a few more, uh.. you know, TEST shots.

Love that bike photo! Striders are pretty awesome, L had one until a couple of weeks ago when he graduated to a pedal bike. My only beef with them is that the fork isn't welded to the tube it sits in, and frankly I have no idea what was holding it in place but eventually L's fork just basically fell out and I had to put a nut and bolt through the hole that's helpfully provided.. but it needs tightening every week or so, otherwise the steering gets wobbly.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:10 (thirteen years ago)

yeah we have to tighten sylvie's regularly. but she is crazy about it and is surprisingly good at riding -- surprisingly because she's kind of clumsy when it comes to a lot of other things.

tylerw, Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:14 (thirteen years ago)

bike pic is great- there are many great ones on the thread.

i just bought a superzoom and am trying to learn how to take pictures. it's been a good distraction while i recover from surgery, but the surgery was on my hand, which makes manipulation of the camera hard.

Love the bike pic! After using the Striders, my boys learned how to ride real bikes, sans training wheels, in about 5 minutes (when they turned 4!).

schwantz, Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:42 (thirteen years ago)

same here, first kid used likeabike from 2-3, when i put him on the bike i just got him to coast down a gentle hill and experiment w pedaling.

second kid rejected likeabike in favor of training wheels, took her way longer, like an extra season.

backed by regular small people (Hunt3r), Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:52 (thirteen years ago)

yeah hard to tell how long she'll be on the strider and how the transition to a real bike will go ... her balance is pretty much all there, guess it's just figuring out how to pedal.

tylerw, Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:55 (thirteen years ago)

OMG, August's sitting up already?!

A whizzed around on his balance bike but when we bought him a pedal bike he was a teeny bit too small for it and it put him off it for ages. When he finally agreed to have a go on it he was off and away after about 5 mins of slowly trying it out.

I have no idea where my babies went

Adding to the bike madness. It's a pedal bike with training wheels. I advocated for a balance bike, but economics ultimately won out when we found this for $30 at a consignment shop. She's been watching her brother zoom around and trying to pick up other big kids' bmx bikes when we're at the playground. Not pedalling yet, but we push her around on it and she gets the biggest grin on her face.

one more! trying on her halloween costume and doing a ridiculous dance. this pic kind of made me tear up, despite how hilarious it is. how long will she be this un-self conscious and goofy?

If she's still doing that when she's 25 she'll be a rock star.

Ava looks like a sullen teenager there! STOP GROWING UP SO FAST LITTLE PEOPLE.

Had a moment like that with my 8-year-old last weekend. We were having a party with the whole extended family and I caught a glimpse of him through a window, lurking outside in the rain, wearing all black with fingerless gloves. Why are you lurking? Where did you get fingerless gloves? Where did you get the idea to wear fingerless gloves?

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 22 October 2012 15:36 (thirteen years ago)

Reminds me - a very cheap day out for Ava would be a trip to see the plaque (and half-embedded luggage trolley) at Kings X...

Michael Jones, Monday, 22 October 2012 15:57 (thirteen years ago)

I am officially an old, because when you said "Potter" I thought Beatrix and not Harry.
