i have never read and have nothing against boards.ie it's just whenever it appears in search results i marvel at the rather unirish, calvinist austerity of the name

Liverpool defender Jose Enrique jumped to the defence of teammate Suso after the FA fined the youngster £10,000 for a homophobic Tweet.

The 19-year-old Spaniard sparked controversy with his reply to team-mate Jose Enrique, who had posted a bizarre picture of himself getting his teeth whitened.

Suso tweeted: ‘What f*** is he doing? This guy is gay... he does everything except play football.’

The Reds midfielder quickly realised he had made a poor error of judgement, deleted the tweet and made an apology.

But, after hearing of Suso's punishment, Enrique tweeted: 'Is amazing how fa can fine my friend @suso30fernandez for a banter thing. Was just a joke!!!'

We all need a rest tbh, this season is purgatory. I was insomniac last night and trying to catch up on recorded motds, and the only thing that moved me was a Martin Jol interview where he literally was the platonic gruff Dutch sea captain. In fairness I didn't rewatch Fellaini's headbutt.

Damn the blitw and its eschewing of the winter break.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 11:41 (seven years ago) link

erstwhile utd last minute derby goals brought several dozens of yr standard ilx footy type into play, how many ppl had we respond to rvp?

It's partly my fault for moving back in with herself, in a city with stuff to do at the weekend no less.

first u get the flower, then u get the honey, then u get the stamen (darraghmac), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 11:46 (seven years ago) link

for some reason the blitw is low on my interest list this season apart from Lolsenal and Arry's epic escape mish

A fat, shit, jittery fraud of a messageboard poster (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 11:50 (seven years ago) link

Nah xp, football is to blame - this season is exactly the same as last season, there's not much new to talk about. The only thing we might be missing is whether there's something big* happening at Villa. I'm also getting more sure that the blitw has New Jersey'ed in some way this year, though I can't put my finger on it. Maybe I'm just tired of life.

* 'something big' = birth of a team which could charm us all on its way to a sixth-placed finish next season, the universe isn't getting turned upside down any time soon

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 11:52 (seven years ago) link

Everton starting well is kinda interesting, kinda

A fat, shit, jittery fraud of a messageboard poster (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 11:54 (seven years ago) link

i kinda think...

i'm more interested in the steady progress/decline atm of the clubs than i am about the football.

IDK, like i could take or leave watchin say lfc or chelsea or citeh or utd but there's still a lot in the overarching journey of each of these clubs this season that compels. In previous seasons i was all about the in-the-moment madness of the tackles and goals and thundering eplic battles, whereas now i'd rather read about it and catch the highlights after the fact that i can digest the league and performances in a more sober light

first u get the flower, then u get the honey, then u get the stamen (darraghmac), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 11:55 (seven years ago) link

The narrative is mostly pretty boring though. Utd aren't going to be interesting until Ferguson fucks off and they hopefully bring in Wilf McGuinness; City aren't going to get any better or worse now unless they appoint Jose and improve in a completely predictable way; Spurs aren't as interesting as I'd hoped, or rather they are but it's the same Spurs erratic interesting as always; Liverpool are interesting but the transfer window has paused the narrative there for a bit; okay, Arsenal are fascinating, but even there Wenger'll somehow muddle through. What else is there? The small clubs?

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 12:05 (seven years ago) link

yeah, norwich swansea qpr villa wba are all interesting this year, it's actually only reading that aren't tbph

A fat, shit, jittery fraud of a messageboard poster (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 12:23 (seven years ago) link

Point taken about the fodder, they ought to be worthy of more interest. It's just same problem as always - what's the point? They'll lose to City and Utd, they'll be too inconsistent to compete with the flakier big clubs, one of them might finish above Liverpool but so what?

Anyway this morose meta non-banter will surely revitalise our board.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 12:26 (seven years ago) link

four or five of them might finish above Liverpool

tmb indeed, if you're gonna open up like that in the bantz thread you need to finish on a note of ignorant pack bravado or (if it's about yr grandad who has war medals beaing up a younger member of an etnic minority) a mawkish sentimental note, obv in either case lets have a -LAD finish

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 16:51 (seven years ago) link

just can't bring yourself to abbrev can you

r|t|c, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 17:30 (seven years ago) link

Gotta admit I don't feel 110% comfortable with how this is developing. I want clearer parameters - if it's r|t|c, proceed to engage in banter; wbs, aim for naturalistic, thoughtful chat; merdeyeux, somewhere in between. That sort of thing. Are abbreviations okay? I don't know. I want to know, but there needs to be a chain of command. Leadership. Not a banter (bantz? I'm in the dark) free-for-all - people could get hurt.

Spontaneity is the enemy of banter imo, thread became a minefield for a bit back there.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 17:41 (seven years ago) link

social life is difficult enough to manage already without bantz being a paradigm entirely distinct from the norm. can't we accept a fluid continuum?

Shane Richie Junior (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 19 December 2012 19:59 (seven years ago) link

we must accept fluidity beyond the comfort zone of klata else renounce bantz imo
